Hey guys, I have a few queries. Ive tried searching the forum, but cant really get any results as the search function does not work with 3 letter words...

K i have a billion 7202g Modem, and was wondering if i need to set up any of the following (and what they are).

"Authentication Protocol"
Options = 'Auto', 'Pap', 'Chap'

"RIP"
Options = 'No Rip', 'Rip v1', 'Rip v2', 'Rip V1 + v2', 'Rip v2 Multicast'

"MTU"
Currently set to "1492"

---

1. Must i enable PPPoE Relay?

2. What is NAT, and must this be enabled/disabled.

3. Is there a point to the timezone feture?!

4. Lastly, Must my DNS be set to Obtain Automaticly. If not, what are the values?

---
(ISP = Axxess)

Thanks alot guys,

ICE

Authentication protocol is the used to encrypt your username and password when you connect to your ISP. I'd set it to Auto. I don't have a clue what RIP is, but on my router it's disabled. MTU = Maximum Transmission Unit. It is the largest packet of data you can receive/send without it being fragmented. 1492 is the optimal value for ADSL. NAT = Network Address Translation. Since your IP address on the internet and that of your PC are different, NAT is used to change the IP address of all the data packets dynamically. Nope, there's no point in using the Time Zone feature, but you can use the following IP address, 196.25.1.1, to sync the router's time/date to SAST. DNS1 = 196.43.1.11 DNS2 = 196.25.1.11.
