Well he said theres a latency problem. he told me to ping all these ip adresses and most of them nearly all i got request timed out then i downloaded a file from tucows at a "blistering" 2.5kb/s.

then i had to do the sentech speed test and got 3.99kb/s.

then he said he will do more investigating and call me back.

At least they trying to help but i do wish the problem was solved

got a call now from another guy at sentech. he made me download from tucows and i was getting between 5-10KB/Sec so he said thats fine so he is closing my ticket cos my speeds fine. But i still download **** off emule, bit torrent,games.saix.net,filefront and other places

if tucwos is downloading at 5-10 ... it's a good bet your connections is fine. Also go agaisnt is.co.za they have the freebsd mirror ;)

Do not ever judge your connection speed by crappy programs like emule and bit torrents and especially filefront (maybe if you pay for an account). That's just plain stupid.

The games.saix.net one is strange. That's why I recommend checking against other local sites with big pipes ... avoid mweb by a mile.

if IS and tucows is fine then your link is fine. Also, if you were using the default tucows server, that's on Saix, meaning your connection and saix is fine. Meaning it's games.saix.net that's probably the problem.

Do you know who youre downloading from on eMule ?
You know they can put eMule on matchboxes these days... with 2 cables for a serial port connection, and a speed of less than 9600 baud.
If you dont know who's on the other side, you cannot possibly say that your connection is slow.

hey, that's so weird, since they fixed the major slow down about 2 weeks ago, i have never had trouble connecting and my speeds are around 14K/sec all day... connecting to tower 22 in PTA on 128K... wonder why others are still experiencing slow down and connection problems...

ryanrich, the man with a perfect mywireless connection.... you could frame that title, it will be worth a lot when SENTECH DIES!!!! :)

ryanrich, are you connected to Pretoria [22] La Montagne or [22] Kingsley Centre? Likewise, my connection speeds have also been fine recently [128k package]. I'm on [22] La Montagne (11% to 15% signal level).

Well I connecto to SunningDale tower in DBN Tower number 102 and I get 150Kb/s usually on a bad day.. but this week so far has been awesome :) been getting between 180kbits/s to 277kbits/s. When they had the bandwidth problem it was very slow... but when it was fixed the line speed was fine at around 150-180kbit/s but I lost about 40% of my packets... since monday though this has improved GREATLY and now I lose 3%-10% of my packets over 60 packets sent:) I'm happy and I must say this week has started off with a big bang :)

Please excuse the stupid question, but where do you find how many packets have been lost for general internet usage [Win2k] (i.e. for web browsing and downloads/uploads (NOT "pings"))?

Well generally I use the ping command to see how many small 32byte packets get "lost" as it were :) if 32byte packets disappear then anything bigger will disappear more often.. but I also checkthe loss on games like DoD :)

so you play DOD with ur sentech?
i wonder if i can play CS if i set decent enough rates etc etc...

my avg ping to kalahari.mweb.co.za is 90ms

Now when I say play I mean a stop and go type of play I get moaned at for "Teleporting" but in my case it is playable... but it's no ISDN I play for fun with Sentech and I have ISDN that gathers dust till I play a clan match:)

Avg ping to saix.net is 135ms but in game I get between 85ms-400ms.

yeah i just wanna play for fun.....

although im 128k...

Minimum = 113ms, Maximum = 177ms, Average = 144ms
to saix.net, thats with 2 downloads going at 12kb/s each though...

You don't need more than 5KBites/s to play DoD or CS but the pings will jump around allot

Cerberus

Well since monday for me the packet loss has dropped... it's still not perfect but I get 0-4 loss usually.Only on extreme maps do I get higher and pings show that the loss has dropped to around 4-10% which is fine to play either DoD or CS.
