this w'end i tried to help my gf out to use her SE k750i on vodacom as a modem to connect to the net.

seeing as i use mtn at home, i was not 100% sure how to do this as she is one VODACOM

anyways

i got a connection that said i was connected at 921kbs (or something), how ever i could not view any pages, local or internationl.

you can use the phone itsself to view pages ie google etc, but when used as a modem not pages came up.

can anybody please tell me, what we need to do to do, to fix this?

Are you running the Sony Mobile Networking Wizard? Try getting the latest version - even the one for the W800 works. Make sure all the drivers are loaded correctly. These are available from sonyericsson.com too.

  1. Buy SIM.
  2. Insert MTN SIM.
  3. Activate SIM via 141.
  4. Request settings from MTM via *123# then SEND.
  5. Wait for WAP settings (short wait usually).
  6. Reboot phone (ESSENTIAL)
  7. Load airtime via 141
  8. Buy data bundle (R10 or R100 - nothing inbetween avail)
  9. Connect via USB cable to PC. (Can also do via Bluetooth)
  10. After a few seconds you get a menu on the PC asking if you want to see the folder on the phone memory. This also indicates the connection is OK.
  11. Run the Sony 'Mobile Networking Wizard.'
  12. Select NEW CONNECTION.
  13. At some stage it will ask you to name it - say 'MTNCon' or whatever.
  14. All settings such as User/Pass blank.
  15. You get a choice of dialup or gprs. Select GPRS.
  16. Allow the software to get the Settings from the SIM. A list will popup so if you've used the phone for Voda, that profile will also appear. (You can delete all the Internet Profiles before you start to avoid confusion.)
  17. Select the MTN profile - the WAP one.
  18. Now highlight the MTNCon text and press "CONNECT".
  19. It should say connected at 115kb/s (theoretical speed)
  20. Now you can start Firefox or IE.
