Kalahari ---- What has happened??

Termination of Sales, Cancellation of Orders & Blacklisting:

By Kalahari: Kalahari reserves the right, for purposes of preventing suspected fraud and/or where it suspects that you have created multiple User profiles to take advantage of a promotion or Coupon intended by Kalahari to be used once-off by you, to blacklist you on its database to refuse to accept or process payment on any order, and/or to cancel any sale concluded between you and Kalahari, in whole or in part, on notice to you.

So yeah....zero sympathy I am afraid. You are lucky they didn't blacklist you permanently.

Then why did Kalahari not uphold the blacklisting?

Actually, you gan get as many coupons as you like, as long as you use 1x per profile.
If you do try to use a voucher more than once, with any profile or user, it is simply rejected & the order acceped!

They accepted the voucher & processed the payment, deducted the payement from my bank account, sent the item, then asked DHL to hold back. & obviously waited for my call!

We did NOT try to use a voucher more than once! In none of their conversations with me was any vouchers mentioned
All I wanted to know from them, was why my profile was blacklisted. All they said that there was an error with a few new profiles & reinstated the delivery that arrived an hour later. At no time was any refund suggested by them!

the voucher WAS used once only, to blacklist you on its database to refuse to accept or process payment on any order, They accepted payment & processed the order! and/or to cancel any sale concluded between you and Kalahari, the order was put on hold, NOT cancelled in whole or in part, on notice to you.

NO notice was given to us

Look you were trying to take advantage of them, just admit it. They handled it badly by not phoning you, but the voucher should not have been accepted.

One specific voucher cannot be used more than once - eg the voucher with serial number 123 can only be used once. That is true. What you did is try to use 123 and 124 of the same voucher series, which their TOS prohibits, and rightly so.

I actually wanted to take advantage of the vouchers that are freely available.
You correctly say that a voucher, with a specific serial number can be used once, which is what we did, at the beginning of the month. The voucher used at the end of the month had a unique number, very different to the first.

Understand that there are a few of us in our household, each buying during the month, each now using a differnt profile.
No-where does it say 1x voucher per household!

Actually, Yesterday we recieved another order for Solar lights placed during the middle of the month, also with a voucher recieved during February.
That makes 4x vouchers, for 4x different orders, different profiles, used during February.

And I am taking advantage of the freely available vouchers that Kalahari accepted! Yes.. I admit that!
Taking advantage of Kalahari? I don't think so. If they thought so, I'm sure they would not have offered compensation.

I'm just surprised you don't think about the consequences of your actions. If everyone took advantage of offers like that the way you do, Kalahari would never offer vouchers again.

Plus, Kalahari has been making a loss for at least 4 years. It isn't like they are rolling in the bucks and can afford things like this.

You said you registered a new profile specifically to take advantage of the voucher.

Kalahari probably did what they did because you complained so loudly. They want to build their customer base.

A month ago, I had the opportunity to use an Exclusive Books voucher twice in the same order. The voucher was worth R500, meaning I would have got a massive discount. I removed the extra copy of the voucher and then let them know about the bug via email.

You wonder why we need so many silly little laws? Because people like you can't regulate themselves.

This is what I love about forums..

OP creates thread, to complain, ask advice, inform of something, whatever.
Thread gets nitpicked to pieces and derailed to such an extent that no one can remember what it was about originally.
OP gets taken apart for something that has got absolutely fark-all to do with why he/she created the thread.
Whatever resolution might have come from it being aired on a public and well known forum is washed down the drain...

Rinse and repeat.

And then people ask why so many people just lurk around on forums and not participate.
It's cause there is always some keyboard cowboy with a low self esteem problem hiding behind the anonymity a nickname offers.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

OP created the thread to complain about Kalahari suddenly not delivering an order. Then it turns out he created another profile specifically to make use of a voucher. He got blacklisted for this.

If you come to complain about something, at least make sure you are in the right before moaning about service.

I worked on a fraud detection system before and one of the rules for flagging a customer as fraudulent was, if it's a first time purchase on a new account and the value of the item exceeds R1000, flag the purchase as fraudulent. Someone then manually has to approve or reject the purchase. This usually has a turnaround of approximately 24 hours. During the entire process, the customer does not get contacted. Companies figure that it's such a small percentage of purchases that get flagged that it's not worth their while to contact the client about it. They'd rather deal with the complaint (which I'm sure Kalahari has lotsa practice doing) and resolve these on a case by case basis.

According to the above he got blacklisted because of a system. Had stuff all to do with any voucher(s).
Which was reversed as it was their fault - admitted by them.
Item was delivered, albeit late. So.

I am not saying that using one or two or ten vouchers is right or ethical or whatever.
I feel the original complaint about them not delivering because of a restriction placed on all new accounts is valid.
They had no issue with the use of the voucher on the account, otherwise surely the sale would have been nullified? They even gave him credit ffs.

Complaint was about late delivery. Whatever happened in the background wrt vouchers etc is irrelevant, because in this case that was not the reason why the delivery was delayed.
If you are going to screen ALL new accounts for sales of more that whatever amount, make sure customers understand that before you take their money, and like in this case, a b/day gift is not delivered.

And that is what I am trying to get at.
The original complaint gets overshadowed by some detail which, while in itself is a valid point, has got nothing to do with the original complaint.

The delivery was cancelled because the OP created another account linked to the same details as his other accounts. This was enough to trip their software. So they were directly at fault for the 'delay'.

Kalahari should have tried to contact them tho, that wasn't good form on their part.

Sigh! We are 4 in our household, each responsible for our own purchases. Different profiles, Same address & we all used 1x voucher each, as we are entitled to.
I used a voucher once! As I am entitled to. As per kalahari's T's & C's.
As you guys are obviously aware, vouchers can only be used once!
If I had broken the T's & C's, Kalahari would not have processed my order & voucher& not deducted the money out of my account.
If they had blacklisted me because of voucher abuse, they would have refunded me.
When I asked where my order was, there was no problem stated by a supervisor, apart from an error & apology on their side & compensation offered.

But, I have said all this before, appologies for that.
Me BAD!

I did not break ANY of Kalahari's T's & C's. (they accepted my purchase order with voucher & deducted money)

Kalahari is, at the moment, part of Naspers, & the go-ahead has been approved for them to be taken over by takealot.com.

At first glance, it looks like the OP did nothing wrong and Kalahari screwed up. However, the big question is, how was the order paid for?

If there are two profiles where the same credit card or bank account was used, then of course it will be looked upon as a duplicate account created in order to take advantage of multiple vouchers, and rightly so!

If different banking details were used for each of the accounts then Kalahari, had no reason to suspect a duplicate account.

Simple as that.

BUT... Kalahari did process my order & voucher & did deduct the money out of my account & kept quiet about it! All different accounts, used many times before, with vouchers!

It's Friday afternoon, enough for now, I'm off home.

So they were only obligated to refund you then. What they did for you after that was purely goodwill. If you opened multiple accounts, but used the same payment details, then you had no reason to open multiple accounts.

As DA-LION-619 pointed out, it seems to be duplicate credit cards that get flagged.

They tend to flag the same cc details on different accounts if I remember

Not one Individual it's many people's accounts that have been blacklisted due to this practice of cheating the system. They input the same residential address and credit card details on every profile and sooner or later a red flag will pop up. I know of somebody who has their account blacklisted and has opened many accounts and does EFT for every transaction and waits at somebody's else house. Even if it means waiting 4 hours for the courier to pitch.

Some courier companies you can phone them up and they can supply you with schedule what time they will be in your area.

This guy abuses the system and makes a living out of it. He finds bugs on every website . Looks for errors and takes advantage of them. Doesn't use his own Internet..

They were in their right to cancel the order and black list his account and credit his credit card back. If it was EFT different story..

Sounds a lot like yours truly. :D I too can be a real dick sometimes, I just don't moan about it when it finally backfires on me.

They did not cancel the order, they processed it, debited my account, asked DHL to hold, not return the parcel & did NOT credit my account! All this actually, as I said, was because it was what they call a high priced item on a new profile!
