does the below sound "normal"

(18:09:53) Tech Support: Good day,
(18:10:01) Tech Support: This is Mattheew. How may I assist?
(18:10:02) ijacobs3: evening
(18:10:12) ijacobs3: Hi Mattheew
(18:10:28) ijacobs3: im trying to set up email on my aunts ipad for her
(18:10:44) ijacobs3: and need the settings for @lantics smtp server
(18:10:54) ijacobs3: and what i use for her outbound authentication settings
(18:11:05) ijacobs3: as she wont always be on vodacoms network
(18:11:33) Tech Support: It needs to be set according to the internet connection
that you are connecting on, unfortunately.
(18:11:45) ijacobs3: :(
(18:12:13) ijacobs3: it would be switching between 2 or 3 diffents wifi spots , on
different isp's
(18:12:22) ijacobs3: as well as mobile netowkrs
(18:12:29) ijacobs3: so there is no 1 internet provider
(18:14:05) Tech Support: Unfortunately, you would then have to set it according
to each of them. You could try smtp.lantic.net, however, it's unlikely that this
will work on several different connections.
(18:18:49) ijacobs3: eh, i need to teach a 60- year old how to create a new outbound
smtp every time she's somehwere new??
(18:19:12) ijacobs3: i have never before heard of an isp / mail provider that doesnt
offer smtp auth
(18:19:54) Tech Support: I understand your frustration quite well. Vox Datapro
offers SMTP Auth. So you may contact them, if you'd like to have a look at
pricing.
(18:20:20) Tech Support: They're part of the same company, however, they are
another department.
(18:20:28) ijacobs3: for a singe email address?
(18:20:32) ijacobs3: not worth it,
(18:20:54) ijacobs3: will see if i can get her to drop @lantic all together, web
africa cheaper anyway for dsl
(18:21:02) ijacobs3: and gmail offer  proper email service
(18:21:34) Tech Support: Yes. Unfortunately, it comes at a separate cost.
Telkom's SMTP servers no longer work on all internet connections, as well as
Internet Solutions. These have all become dependent on the internet connections.
(18:23:04) ijacobs3: thats happened a loooong time ago, hence the various isp's
offering authentication for outbound email,
(18:23:45) Tech Support: Yes. And their authentication also comes at a separate
cost.
(18:24:00) ijacobs3: nope
(18:24:05) ijacobs3: not with hetzner
(18:24:06) ijacobs3: or mweb
(18:24:08) ijacobs3: or webafrica
(18:24:14) ijacobs3: or serv hosting
(18:24:20) ijacobs3: or even host4africa
(18:24:24) Tech Support: Okay, well, I apologize for the inconvenience.
(18:24:41) ijacobs3: on any of these, i can select , use outbound authentication for
my email
(18:24:57) ijacobs3: and say use the same as my log in details
(18:25:08) ijacobs3: as my pop3
(18:25:27) Tech Support: That's good to know. Thank you. However, as I mentioned
before, unfortunately, SMTP Auth comes at an additional cost with Vox.

Ok, lol as in I'm mad? Or @lantic full of ***, it's an old family member that's had an email address with them for as long as they been around,

lol at the so called techie....

He clearly had "high quality training"

I should ask him how my email works when I leave the country, and my email still works after adding only the locations wifi key/connection...

Thread necro, but yup, just experienced the same story. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought SMTP authentication would be a pretty standard feature oO
