Hi,

So one of my batteries is missing a nut :/ it is very close to a M10 nut but it is much smaller all together and the thread seems just ever so small in comparison to a regular M10, i am thinking it is imperial. any ideas where to find a match? i tried the local hardware and builders also, they only have the regular stuff.

TIA

thanks though unless that thing is cheap it is a bit of an overkill.

speaking of these shops, where would i find one?

There is always a specialised nut and bolt supplier in any place with an industrial area. Look for one in your local yellow pages or on the Internet.
Search for "Nut and Bolt supplier" should find one for you.
If you like doing DIY, believe me, you will use that little gauge more than you think. It takes all the guesswork out of issues and prevents plenty of stripped bolt events.
There are nice ones such as the photo, and even el cheapo plastic ones available.
I have my dad's grandfather's Whitworth gauge, and imperial gauge and a metric one, plus another one for very small threads.

And while you are at it also buy a caliper or micrometer.
It would also help if you told us where you live to suggest a bolt and nut supplier.

yeah its all good i will go trawl steelmate this saturday and see what they have, i reckon very worst case i will just "rethread" it with the closest bolt i can find xD

Very bad idea! You will in all likelihood twist the post off inside the battery.

Geez! cant use Google?????

The answer could be really simple. Go to the place where you bought the battery and find out if they dont stock replacement nuts ------

If I need some bolts and things in Jhb east I usually end up here.

Looking at the battery, I think I had the same problem, and had to scratch out an imperial nut from one of my many storage containers. (But it was a while back.)
