Driving to work this morning I was wondering how NASA gets funding for these missions. Who do they need to convince that there "might be life out there"?

Wonder what one could do with all the $'s they spend on outer space.

It's called pure science. Its not about convincing anyone of anything, its about knowing stuff. Some people think knowing stuff is reward in itself.
