Local vs International Bandwidth

How is the split made between int. and local bandwidth?

IP address ranges? or something else?

Telkom makes no difference - your 3 Gig cap is measured on the combined total of lacal and international usage - after reaching your cap they effectively cut off your international bandwidth and therefore access to international sites.

I think he wants to know how they determine what's international once you're capped? I also wouldn't mind knowing.

Yep it is IP address ranges. ISP's use BGP routing tables to determine which traffic is local and international.

dmostert - it's not as simple as a fixed set of ranges. Ranges get sold and reallocated all the time. You'll have write software to ask the BGP service for the latest details.

Yep, last time I checked there were just over 800 entries in the table so suffice it to say I will not be listing them here

Hehe, there isn't really anything illegal you could do with this info. The most you could do is what Rodent did i.e. route local traffic via ADSL and international traffic via Sentech.
