Agree with that ... not sure why there is some much interest in WiMax currently. Even once ratified, 802.16e has no techological 'silver bullet' that makes it vastly superior to any other (even proprietary) broadband wireless technology avaliable now or in the future.Chaz said:No one is currently rolling out WiMax networks. WiMAX's true value lies in it being a globally accepted & widely shipped standard. Just like WiFi, WiMAX will only truely 'happen' if & when it is incorporated into some future Intel Centrino spec. and when this spec/chipset is shipping in any noticable volume worldwide.
Only once a certain critcal mass point is achieved, where a sizeble enough number of CPE devices are in circulation, will the network providers be incentivised to roll out 'wide converage' WiMAX networks. But Intel & co. better hurry up as there going to have stiff competition from the cellular providers who will probably be rolling out 2nd gen HSDPA technology during the same timeframe.
Going to be interesting to see who gets it right.
