Media Centre TV Tuner Troubles

I am currently using 2=local analog antenna right? what is the difference between this and 0?

My TV antenna comes straight down into my house, through the amp and into my HTPC. I do not have a ts27-2 key defined in the registry. How do I map Media centre to use 2 now as I have followed the quickguide setup which does not require media centre setup. How do I now link the channels to ts27-2?
 
does the MCETuningOverrides.xml file have anything to do with my problem?
 
all the channel ids listed in ChannelInfo.xml correspond correctly to the registry entries. 1,2,3,4 and 5. What I'm saying is shouldn't I have a TS27-2 key and have that assigned properly to MCE because now i'm picking up no signal on any frequency.

The correct frequencies vary depending on where you live. The "RF Setup" page links to the Sentech channel number listings by province, you need to enter the channel number into the form and it will then convert that number to the relevant frequency e.g.
  • SABC 3 in Cape Town = channel number 62 = 799250 KHz = Registry value: 2FA39650
  • SABC 3 in Johannesburg = channel number 13 = 247250 KHz = Registry value: EBCBC50

The 'MCETuningOverrides.xml' contains the same information as the 'frequencies.reg' file but it's stored in XML format and overrides the values set in the registry.

The 'iVideoSource' value in the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig" registry Key defines your source.
 
Still getting nothing here. Grey screens all round. Even redid all the steps.Frequencies appear to be right, but still getting nothing.
 
what tv tuner do you have?

perhaps, your tv tuner ships with it's own software...use that to scan for frequencies. then import those frequencies.

secondly, have you/can media center scan itself? (if you run the mce setup wizard ...settings-->tv--set up tv signal-->pick the analogue aerial option--->do you want to use the guide=no--->scan does mce scan and find anything????)
 
Alright! I've managed to get Sabc 1 and Etv working! It's definitely just a frequency problem now.

Sabc 1 -> 191250KHZ
Etv -> 679312KHZ

My tuner does ship with software (Hauppauge) but it doesn't show any frequencies. How do i find out what the other channel frequencies are?

Ok, so based on those two channel numbers I'm guessing you're in Johannesburg. The remainder of the channel numbers should be as follows:
  • SABC 1: 191250 KHz (channel 6)
  • SABC 2: 215250 KHz (channel 9)
  • SABC 3: 247250 KHz (channel 13)
  • eTV: 679250 KHz (channel 47)
  • M-Net: 615250 KHz (channel 39)
  • CSN: 647250 KHz (channel 43)
Using the above values, the 'frequencies.reg' file would look as follows:

Keep in mind that the M-Net & CSN channel number and frequency is the broadcast setting and not what is output by your M-Net decoder. The M-Net decoder channel number and frequency can be altered by turning the screw (marked "channel set") at the back of your unit. Unless you know what that value is set to on your unit, it may be easier to just choose an unused channel number and then turn the screw on the decoder till your PC is able to pick up the decoder output (or test pattern).
