Microsoft is working on adding a new Teams feature that will prevent users from capturing screenshots of sensitive information shared during meetings.

Microsoft is working on adding a new Teams feature that will prevent users from capturing screenshots of sensitive information shared during meetings.

Those joining from unsupported platforms will be automatically placed in audio-only mode to protect shared content. The company plans to start rolling out this new Teams feature to Android, desktop, iOS, and web users worldwide in July 2025.

"To address the issue of unauthorized screen captures during meetings, the Prevent Screen Capture feature ensures that if a user attempts to take a screen capture, the meeting window will turn black, thereby protecting sensitive information," Microsoft shared in a new Microsoft 365 roadmap entry.

Also, Microsoft has yet to share if the feature will be enabled by default or can be toggled on and off by meeting organizers or admins.

The switch over to teams has been bumpy for my one client that has been using skype for the last 100 years.

Some users CAN share documents with me in chat and me with them... some can't. I can't audio call anyone... but I can create meetings and invite them. So if we need an audio call it's "create meeting, send link"... no can clicky clicky call. All the guides say "go to this setting" and I don't even have the setting.

Can't you use a third-party tool to record/capture the stream?

Technically, the admin/host should be able to enable recordings/captures? I have attended meetings where strict NDAs/etc. applied, and I still make the request to either record or receive, or otherwise have access to, a recording.

I do this because people can't put things in writing and commit to that.

It could be blocked out like how DSTV do it. I know you cant shadowplay DSTV anymore on chrome but perhaps OBS might work.

OBS, and even VLC, should work, but Windows is not all that intrusive to detect active apps that aren't running at a system level. I would assume that they could deploy some executable blacklisting method, but I am unsure, and people and businesses won't be open to that. I would need to test this in practice when rolled out. There is also no way that Windows would know that an external device is recording, it would be aware, but not know that it is recording.

I can understand that some people and businesses would not wish to have their streams/video/etc recorded. Personally, I would still request consent to record, and I normally tell straight up that I am recording.

Simple tools like ShareX shouldn't have any issue. Greenshot should also be able to make screen captures.

So many ways to get past this.

They are just going to inconvenience the majority of users who have actual need to capture and only slightly hinder the malicious ones...

It's the weird guest accounts. If everyine has 365 business then it is not a problem.

Yes, of course there are ways to capture, regardless of limitations.

People outside of your organisation won't be able to share files as it now uses your organisations storage and rights to store and share files. It's a lot more limited compared to Skype which was a lot more open, like WhatsApp.

I'm not sure if it is the same for Teams Personal account.

Microsoft being evil, and Teams is the most evil program out there,
so not surprised they try this stuff, probably will try some shady forcing of people to buy their licenses or something

love that people will simply film things with their phone or record the output somehow negating the entire thing.

456... so my GMAIL account based teams account CAN call the users in the org. It CAN also send files to all the users. LOL.

I'm not sure if they invited my gmail account to the org as a guest. But this org was set up this month so I don't think my gmail user was added to their org.

According to one support person in a thread I found dated 17 Feb 2025 Personal and Org accounts CANNOT call each other by design.

This is a pain in the pooper because I regularly send them files over Skype (now needs to be teams)... I SHOULD be using my business mail based teams account... but I might need to switch back to the gmail based one.
