Migration Fee is a joke

Whilst we might think we would be better off with a bankrupt Telkom, it would nail us shut in the 3rd world coffin that we have been lowered into on a fork-lift pallet.

Come February you are not going to suddenly experience a sickly sweet Sound of Music moment, with all the suppressed SNO types that should have been long ago, making appearances in an African version of a Bollywood film.

Wishfull thinking (for some), but back to reality with a serious jolt!

While on the subject of WiFi & WISPs, have you read this? The R30k VANS (TAX) License Fee will mean that a lot of WiFi & WISPs will not be able to afford to operate legally, and it will prevent competition in the telecomms sector!!! Think about it, seriously.

Has anyone managed to get anywhere with Telkom WRT this R250 adsl512-->adsl384 downgrade ripoff fee?

I think this 30K VANS license fee is a grand idea as it will prevent all sorts of mediocore "fly-by-nighters" and pure "chancers" i.e two dudes with a cellphone from making a mess of things.

If you are really serious about taking part then surely you would need some serious startup capital/investment of which 30K would be peanuts to provide a good service instead of relying on huge R3000.00 "activation" fees to make this months payroll.

Not happy with Telkom? Don't use it...

I am like a lot of people here not happy at all so I decided to stop giving my money to Telkom and I call all the people who can do that to do it.

I moved this week-end and my bussiness is based on Internet. No Internet / Phone, no money.

I ordered ADSL 3 weeks ago and confirmed the 3rd january as an installation date twice - once from them monday 27th, one from me thursday 30th.
Obviously it is not installed.

I cancelled my ADSL Application because even for that they useless and can't handle their promisses.

I cancelled yesterday and they had to call me back to confirm. Obviously, nobody did.
Today they called to bravely come and install. I just told them that I don't need a jerk service at home.

Solution for the lucky one on good area:

-Internet: Iburst or wireless solution
-Local and national phone call with cellphone (avoid vodacom as Telkom's got share)
-Fax : ??? I don't know yet but I will find
-International call: As people abroad has better internet than us, you can call via Skype or Net2Phone over the internet.

I will never again directly give any kind of money to these thieves that are Telkom's guys...

Nicolas

PS: With no line, it also avoid that their "technician" plug a phone on your line by the box on the street and then call for free (free for them not for you)

col90, I share your opinion there, but I also have to admit that I would take ADSL (for business) if it was reasonably priced, unrestricted (in particular no cap), 99% reliable, and allowed me to do hosting.

The reality is that I am so fedup with Telkom that I will rather pay them for bandwidth indirectly via WBS!
