Fck the squid and the cache then, can I load a Radius server on the PI and make the hotspot be a captive portal (I want to build the hotspot pages myself with PHP + Foundation.) I want users to create an account (Name, email, password) and then buy another mikotrik and they both talk to the radius on the PI thus 1 account, two physical hotspots.

Wait, is this not a wisp? Guess I want to build a basic wisp.

No Radius required.

You can do that all internally with the Hotspot Manager (or Hotspot User Manager) I don’t recall for sure.

And yes Mikrotiks were built for exactly this purpose so can do it all.

I did use an external centralised Radius server but that’s because I ran voice through it as well.

But you can basically use a Routerboars as a main Radius server and connect lots of others to it centrally.


I think you should have done more reading before buying. A lot of what you want is already right there.

Maybe stop fiddling and start reading. It should be in the doc I sent you from what I remember but it has been updated a lot since.

Can’t remember for sure if the Hotspot manager needed to be installed or was just a case of enabling and going to a web server port.

But I do remember it exists.

Captive Portal itself is a case of just turning on and configuring.

I'm still a little lost regarding storing the info.

And serving the portal if I want to build those pages in php. I want the portal to look and feel custom.

I want to create the captive portal to work with Facebook Gmail and Twitter like I did on PW. People must be able to log into the hotspot with social media. - was planning on hosting that on the PI, did not know the routerbaord could handle that.

Not from what I remember.

Even with a complete customisation and external Radius server I don’t think you’ll be able to get social media logins going.

But I could be wrong and it may have changed. Been a few years and we did a very bespoke version for very different purpose.

There must be a way, my thinking was wall garden the API links to the social media networks store the responses in the external radius server.

I'll do some reading, I can do it with ubiquiti , but RouterOS is a different beast.

There is always a way to do many things.
