Im not sure if this has been covered but I need to ask.
Is there any way of sending an mms internationally ( UK )?
Id doesn’t have to be sent off my phone it can be done via comp too.
( I mean there has got to be a prog or a web based application somewhere)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thnx

Last I heard the networks were 'negotiating' with their British counterparts. Then we never got an answer so I'm glad you brought it up.

To my surprise I was able to send & receive MMS without any fuss to a family member touring Europe earlier this year. Just remember to include the '+' sign and the international dialling code in the number.

It is possible to do the same with Cingular subscribers in the USA as well.

ok Im gonna try it one last time. whats your moblile operator and your family members if you dont mind

im using a w800i
when I try to send a MMS it tells me that the file is corupt and does not send.

I am with MTN, but sending to both networks did not pose any problem this far. Just make sure to keep the size of the MMS below 300k as this is the maximum size they allow. If you still have issues, it must be a software problem on your phone or incorrect settings.

Dear Gangstarr Thank you for your e-mail.Vodacom customers cannot officially send and receive MMS to and from International Networks as there is no Interworking MMS agreement with any international networks. Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at [email protected]. Warm RegardsBrendan O''ConnellEmail Contact Centre

Sounds like the same email I got when I inquired after the introduction of MMS's how long ago!

Not surprising when you consider that they charge over r1.80 for international smses. No wonder why they dont want to allow messages that cost a few cents.

I just tried - again - to send an mms to the UK (orange network) from Vodacom and the sending failed - again.

EDIT - Tried to 02 and it failed too - I'll have to scratch my head and figure out if anyone I know still uses vodafone.

They must be misinformed again.

I definitely received a photo of the hotel my relatives were staying at in Istanbul sent to my MTN prepaid phone from their Vodacom SE K750i contract phone.

That means they were on roaming?

AFAIK, roaming should work - its the inter-connection between international operators that is causing the problems.

They should implement the same system that Orange (and probably others) use. When someone from there sends me an mms I'm given the addy of a webpage and login details and can view the message online.

Not the perfect solution obviously but at least they're making an effort.

this is gonna sound really DUM but how do you enable roaming? and how much does it cost?

Based on your first post, I don't think roaming will help you. I assume from that post that you want to send someone in the UK a MMS? If so, roaming aint going to help you, unless the person in the UK is a MTN/Vodacom subscriber. In that case, he/she should enable roaming and it should work.

To enable roaming, I guess phone your service provider.
