Most notoriously, Gibbs was involved in the match fixing affair with former captain Hansie Cronje, who offered him $15,000 to score "less than 20" in the 3rd One-Day International of a series. He tearfully claimed to the King Commission of inquiry into corruption in South African cricket that he did not follow through on his side of the bargain, in fact scoring a fine 74. As a result he was banned for only six months. He repeatedly refused to tour India fearing arrest and refused to even speak to Indian Police over the matter. However, Gibbs was named in the South African squad to tour India in the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, and as a result, he had to meet with Indian Police over his involvement in the match-fixing scandal
Wut, the man was a genius! He took the money and ignored the fix...Gibbs so dumb he forgot to fix the match he agreed to fix.

Wow a whole six months
Is it an ugly thing to say that they are all quota players?
I get a feeling that the seriousness of the charges being levelled against the players is being diluted by CSA since some of the guilty perps are considered "transformation players"
On the one hand you have an international ban due to non transformation while the very players being transformed are looking for a quick buck by agreeing to fix matches.
Its a tough one.

ENCA is reporting 4 players have been banned for match-fixing. Nothing more there than this. Anyone heard anything on who?
in my opinion, if the salary the good players were getting in local events matched the salary they were getting in IPL games there the good players would play here.
then there would be more people watching cricket here, and thus more money to invest in developing talent.
unfortunately the money was squandered, the talent was ignored and the race card was played, leading to good players leaving the county, and scum not earning enough for their own liking, leading to them becoming corrupt.
this entire thing is a direct consequence of the quota system
Thanks Stefan it's idiotic to blame quotas for match fixing. There was corruption long before quotas and ipl. Those issues weren't around when hansie, gibbs and henry williams corrupted the sport. Some people just like the quick buck...
