MTN 3G - A happy ending

Hi all!

I signed up for MTN's 1gig Bundle with an IBM R52 laptop and 3G data card and all seems very well!!!

I have 4/5 3G-signal strength and it worked flawlessly from the minute I connected! All the software were pre-installed and it was just for plug and play!

This seems to be the way to go! I was sitting on my front porch this afternoon, enjoying a drink and emailed a large file to Namibia and it went through, no troubles at all.

My only complaint is that I had to wait more than a week for the delivery of the laptop, only to find that they included an EDGE card instead of an 3G card... I also had to drive through in hectic traffic to Sandton to exchange it my self (to avoid further delay).

Otherwise, I am sooo happy, considering where I came from... standard dial up... ouch...

And an added bonus is, is that you don't need an ISP dial up account at all!

Is it better than Vodacoms 3G ? What was the total package price ?

For me it is better.

Vodacom:
HP6110 laptop, celeron, 256ram, 40gig hd, cd writer. 1 gig data per month.

R799 for 36 months T

MTN:
IBM R52 laptop, m processor, 512ram, 60gig hd, dvd writer. 1 gig data per month.

R999 for 24 months.

MTN's deal works out less in the end but remember you also get 12 gigs less traffic due to it only being a 24 month contract. So it is fairly equal I suppose...

MTN is also looking at the 36 month deal...

It all depends on your coverage I suppose... No use in having this very nice IBM and no coverage, but remember the deal is available with an EDGE data card as well for the same price.

Currently this deal is only available from MTN's service centres and MTN direct. It is not yet available at an MTN shop.

And after sales service - just read this and the Vodacom 3G forum and see what sort of backup MTN are (read as: are not ) providing, compared to that provided by Vodacom.
