MTN and Spamcop.net

I hope it's a case of 'better the devil you know ...'

I'm sorry some of you are experiencing sending problems.

I have used mail.mtn.co.za as the mail server to send e-mail every day this week and have had no problem on GPRS, EDGE or 3G. That is the way we recommend and the way that some experts have advised us (and on this forum) and it does work. There could be problems if you don't change your sending server but we do not recommend that (see previous posts on this).

This mail server is pumping reasonable volumes so is definitely sending mail.

If you are experiencing problems, perhaps private-mail me so we can get to the bottom of what's wrong.
 
The problem is not sending. The problem is a lot of mail servers will block recieving of emails sent through the server 196.11.241.43 as they check Spamcop and if your IP is listed their as a spam source they will block ALL email from it.
Have your mail admin go to the URL provided by MC and then disconnect the user causing this from your network ;)
 
the chances are good that mail.mtn.co.za will be listed to from time to time - so that is not a solution.

I pointed out the same problem to Vodacom when they startes (you can ask Vodacom3G)and they solved the problem by increasing their pool of IP addresses (so you can disconnect and reconnect with another IP) and they monitor their IP addresses on various blacklists. Their approach is better and greatly reduces the problem.

I don't know why you sell the service as a business service when you can't send mail (the core of the net) 50% of the time!
 
true the problem won't ever be solved for good, but if the providers deal with spammers harshly then the spammers will not use them. hell enforce your AUP and contract and take the spammer to court.
