This is directed to MTNbb ...

We have bought a Teltonika EDGE modem from SealTron and are having a lot of trouble setting it up - such as "SIM card error" messages.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is the SealTron modem MTN approved?
EDGE device software appears to be quite finicky :)
I see that even Sierra Wireless have developed a special s/w version for each
network operator that uses it.

We have not tested the Sealtron so can't help much with the solution until they get us units to try out. It would certainly help them and us and most suppliers do send us samples asap

We asked Sierra to customise the box, CD, card and software for us.

I stand corrected here, but I think that MTN in Durban recommended the Sealtron unit as a USB Edge modem to be used on Desktop machines.

Hi Guys, I am currently surfing using a Thetalogix USB Edge modem and don't have any problems with the MTN network. I will soon get samples to MTN for testing/approval. I am also busy with a PCI and compact PCI modem.

Google doesn't return any info on that modem. Could you PM me with more info please? Price?
Thx

Turns out the MTN guys warned us that the device had not been approved, but pressure from development got them to give us the contact. Price was about R1000.

For the sake of the thread, it turns out the labelling on the modem was incorrect.

There is a picture of the SIM card saying "insert this way ..." but it has been attached the wrong way around. When you put the SIM card in the OTHER way around it appears to work correctly.

Now isn't that amusing? :)

Just rotate the SIM on the Teltonika-Sealtron 180 degress and it will work fine.

Welcome, Wayne1, to the forum! If you are number 1, can we expect a number 2? :D

Bought a unit from Sealtron and it works pretty well. FYI, more stock is arriving next Friday and they running a special at R1400.
Apparently they in process of getting an ICASA approval......

The purpose of our approval process is to ensure the device works correctly so it makes sense to follow this process. Remember that with a recent PC card we found a problem which resulted in a global fix being issued on the firmware.

Could I ask a huge favour from guys currently using this device, could I get some ping stats using this modem?

Looking for a local ping something like saix.co.za
International ping like google.com
Internal ping such as mtn.co.za

Would be greatly appreciated, also are you using edge or gprs.

Also, is anyone using the PCI option? Comments?

Last question, is Sealtron supplying the newer class 6 (edge) devices, I know the Teltonika released an updated range towards the end of last year.

Hello all,
Teltonika will be releasing the Edge Class 10 proberbly near the end of September. Please see http://www.sealtron.co.za for atcommand info if needed. USB device offered at the moment is Class 6.The USB info will be updated as the Class 10 modem is released.
As far as MTN approval is concerned, MTN are testing it at the moment and should be completed soon.

Does anybody know how to check if you have connected via GPRS or EDGE? Testing the speed of the connection with the Telkom Local speed test I get anything between 70Kb/s and 108Kb/s. On CNet's bandwidth meter I get 45Kb/s - 50Kb/s.

This feels more like GPRS+ than EDGE. I am about 300m from a tower that I know has been upgraded to EDGE. I even get the "Yello Broadband" on my phone.
