MTN SMS delivery problems? Anyone else?

MaD, CellC coverage actually isn't a problem, as long as you set your phone to use the Vodacom network you will be 100% smooth-sailing with CellC sms & voicemail etc.

Forget about MTN, unless you want to wait for this mythical GPRS price decrease, or EDGE on MTN, or MTN's 3G

Just remember that CellC is unlikely to actually have a decent 3G network anytime soon - they don't even have enough of their own 2.5G towers up yet...

Solly, me 4got - there is one very good reason why you should choose CellC - remember that number portability is coming [sometime to/from a not too distant galaxy], now CellC does allow you to choose a shorter than 24 month contract, so I would go with that if the price is right & package suits your needs.

OK i'm considering them atm.. need decent price with decent phone like the P900, what a hot phone that is :) Got a Vodacom 4U prepaid sim today, must say the delivery reports come back a touch quicker but thats to be expected i suppose. Oh and one can buy SMS bundles of 150 SMS's for 50 beans.. 30c/sms peak/off-peak.........

I get cheaper sms bundles on my contract with CellC, I must go check my Teks Invoice & I'll post the truth here - I think it was 26c per sms anytime to any SA cellery#.

That would have been an EXCELLENT deal if it wasn't for the 30 day expiry...

I'm gonna assume you meant the P910... the P900 is not worth it considering what superceded it. Or shall we just say the P910 is worth whatever extra cost is associated with it?

<edit>Stoopid me - didn't read your post properly. You could ask for the better phone though, and pay the difference...</edit>

Just check your service provider when going to CellC - I'm on CellC with Nashua Mobile and I am charged for my delivery reports!! I phoned both CellC and NM - CellC doesn't charge for the report, but NM does. It sucks!! :(

I learnt my lesson years ago with "Cellular Service Providers" - I used to be with something called Supercall Cellular, after that I vowed never again - just go direct to the Cellular Network Operator's own Service Provider - ultimately a lot less hassle & none of the "it's their fault" ping pong support stories...

Y dont u wipp out a R5 coin go to pick "n" pay, and buy yourself a VODACOM 4 u starter pack...problem solved.

:)

My mom and I are having a perculiar sms issue which started - very suddenly - around the 13th Feb...

I can call/ sms her and she can call me, but she can't sms or reply to an sms from me.

The fact that I live in the UK and she in SA further complicates matters as both networks just keep blaming each other!
The weird thing is that niether of us are experiencing the problem with any of our other contacts, some of whom are on the same networks.

My network (Orange) have run full diagnostics from this side and insist that the prob is on MTN's side because I am able to call/ sms as normal.

MTN insist that it's Orange's fault because when a msg is sent, my mom gets a "Recipient Rejects Message" notification.

I have tried my SIM in another phone - still didn't work
I tried my phone with a different SIM and it went through - so not my phone.
I have also Master Reset my phone - just in case!

My mom tried her SIM in another phone - didn't work
She tried another SIM in her phone - it worked - so not phone

There are no barrs/ blocks set on either phone.

As Orange are adamant that it's not me, it must be MTN, but Nashua (the SP) aren't lifting a finger! Trying to get a response from MTN Support is an exercise in futility too!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue (without changing networks/ numbers!)

The message service is pathetic and was so before load shedding. I’m going to move to another platform even though I have been with MTN from day one!
