Where could I find more information on how mxit work - is the application that you use just a simplified web browser?

I am quite lost with the terminology of this technology that is used with cell phones but I see a very bright future for it.

Thanks,

See http://www.mxit.co.za/ for more info. In simple terms u download it to your phone and it saves it in applications or games or wherever your phone defaults. You click it and register after which you can invite friends to chat. The mxit application has to run to enable you to chat. And chatting is quite easy too. Seeing that you not very technical....it feels like you send an sms but you get to see all your "sent" messages and replies in one window. Like:
Me: how r u?
You: fine thanks
Me: cool

That's as simple as I can explain it, but look at their web-site for a "better" explanation. Happy mxing!

Fiekus,

Tnx, I know how to work with the application, I actually want to know how the application work technologically i.e. the application it self, is it a simple java browser or is it complied with C++, do they make use of a "game server" how does it link up with the network operators and more important how do they collect their money that Vodacom deduct of my account.

Thanks,

It's a simple Java application. They use a modification of the ejabberd (I think) Jabber server. Basically, the mxit app communicates with the server in a modified (i.e. compacted) version of the XMPP (Jabber) protocol. But the mxit server can communicate to other Jabber servers, i.e. relay it back to standard XMPP, so you can chat to people on, for example, Google Talk.

Vodacom does not 'deduct' money from your account. They bill you for your GPRS data usage. MXit Lifestyle can not collect that money, since GPRS connectivity is not a service they deliver. The moola that gets credited to your account comes from premium rated sms's which you send to them.

Thanks for covering up my shame Wiehan  I really had a blond moment didn't I, LOL :D

And belated apologies Lourens, I misread ur post COMPLETELY.

I think I just qualified for the myADSL fu cup

Anyone use Opera Mini on their phone and tried to logon www.mixt.co.za/wap to download MXIT? I found that with Opera Mini you can not see the code pic therefore can't continue to download mxit, 6600 builtin browser is fine.

I can see the pics with my opera. Lourens if you want to try Mxiton you PC, visit www.defza.com there's an explaination on how it can be done, it's quite simple, there's also a list of the specs for the servers that Mxit uses and how Mxit works.

Wiehan, tnx got that info and realised that the moola part is one of the income streams for them. Found the jabber info as well and will look into it but think it's a bit to over kill for my concept.

Fiekus, ons hoop maar die garing verdwyn vinning anders gaan jy dalk die nuwe naam behou! Dankie vir jou bydra.

mh348, tnx I am using mxit with mpowerplayer on my laptop.
