My correspondence with Sentech

When I first signed up of this I had this gut feeling that these bastards were gonna screw me. Someone in their accounts department even told me that I had to deposit R3000 into some account becuz I didn't have a credit card. When I told her that the contract does not state that you need a credit card and that I want her to email me the relevant information she put the phone down. When I phoned their accounts department again they told me that NO deposit of R3000 was needed. This means they broke the confidetiality of my fax and tried to screw me out of my money. NO ONE F*KS with my money!

I eventually got my modem and what not after about a month or so. I must say that I was relieved after the 1st month to see that no funny debits have occured and my service was running smooth and always at top speeds (16kbs). Then I decided to upgrade to 256 and immediately my speed would never drop below 25kbs and peeked at around 39kbs. Then all this *** happens. This is bullcrap! the fact that they even respond in such a rediculous manner if disturbing. I don't know the law when it comes down to crap like this but I'm sure their advertising is false and someone should be able to nail them to the wall for it. Either that or they should change their "up to 512k broadband" to something like "up to 512k nonamebrand".

if albino aboriginal 3 legged crab infested siamese twin spastic colon knerts ballas pigs had sex, their babies would be little sentech's.

I read with interest the comment on MWEB....

There is a difference there... Sentech are supposed to be providing an ACCESS service as well as an multimedia service in order to comply with their license. So, the ACCESS service (the connection from the modem to the tower) is THEIRS....

In MWEB's case they could have a perfectly valid argument in saying the line quality if such that you cannot achieve 56k ... (though there are other reasons 4 their problems as well)

In Sentech's case they cannot make such excuses. The infrastructure that is supposed to provide the 128k service is THEIR OWN and therefore THEIR responsibility.

You guys make a point though, about using AUTHORITY to force Sentech's hand. Is anyone going to lay charges with the Poice? For my part I'm prepared to put a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority about misleading advertising. Does anyone know where Sentech is advertising MyWireless at the moment so I can get my hands on a print copy?

I have an inferiority complex. But it's only a little one.

agreed very much :) So mweb is safe ... for now :)
I'm definitly sure that sentech has lied :) At the least I'm praying for that. I just dont know where though :)
up to 512k just doesnt seem like it's a lie, cause up to, starts at zero.

At worst, High Speed is a lie. But could be in the eye of the beholder.
I get crap speeds. I get 4kB/s speed tests off sentech's web-site on a good day, and Ive had 1kB/s.

When I deided to get sentech. The broadband to me also said high speed, and they also said high speed.
But after a while, that all vanished. And now am also left with nothing. And I'm definitly not connected 24/7.
Because I get disconnected everyday. I must say, 2 weeks ago sunday I had a wonderfull time though, got upto 10kb/s international. Next day that was gone though.

In then end, yes, it's definitly slow. But they did say contention. And well, we know that's not the problem.
I'd gladly go back to a modem, even though, I do not pay phone costs on mywireless, atleast I know what I'm getting is gonna suck, and that I do not have 24/7 connectivity, cause it would rob me blind. Being connected 24/7 would be cheaper using gprs,
for connectivity sake, with a combination of a dial-up, for high amounts of data.

Oh, and if this service was meant for low end users that browse web-pages, then maybe gprs would be a cheaper option for them?
Then who needs mywireless ?

I couldnt find prices now for gprs at mtn, but I'm sure it will be more usefull to use gprs at mtn.

Blah I'm talking nonsense. :)

It's a great idea. But I would definitly think before doing that using some kinda marketing lawyer, or whatever to look into it. Because if you dont point out the right facts, you gonna end up with a slander lawsuit.
Maybe get a lawyer to look at everything we have, and tell us if it's really enough.

going to your local police station, and laying charges of fraud.

<snip>

Naturally of course, once you have the docket number, you contact ETV, 702 newsrooms, and inform them of this charge being laid - giving the docket number as proof, and then watch the poo hit the fan, as the TV stations and radio stations go sniffing for the story..

Nah, won't work. You're focusing on the mass media who don't know a bit from a byte (would someone explain that for me?). Either lay a charge (and good luck to you, getting Constable Plod to write it down) or use the ASA and other bodies, and then you've got some news for the business press - the likes of Business Times, Business Day, Moneyweb etc. But then we also need to form a comittee or forum of concerned/disgruntled MyWireless users, meet, agree actions, agree messages, have a spokesperson and start making noise. And you need to be able to say you're representing x-thousand MyWireless clients. I'm volunteering, BTW.

And the other possibility: How about a class action suit? Does that work in SA?

What stands out is that according to them 8kbps during peak hours is what one can expect from the 128kbps... While that's not too great in itself

"Not too great", that's putting mildly. 8kbps is bloody rubbish by anyone's standards - it's about 1KB per second, which is about one fifth of what you can expect with a f*cking DIAL-UP MODEM.

The fact that their call center is STILL spewing this story with a goddamn STRAIGHT FACE just boggles my mind.

I read on the www.locustworld.com mailing list that somebody tried Sentech's scheme in New Zealand and it did not work so well... Why do you think MESHBOX technology from locustworld is
all the rave at CEBIT ect..? The technical hurdles is insurmountable that Sentech faces, with their single tower on a highsite. MESHBOXES conneted to www.is.co.za or ADSL is the only way to go.
