Please post your N80 problems here.....

My first problem with this phone is the slide. When sliding the phone closed, it keeps prompting you wheter you wish to lock the phone or not. I feel thats pretty dumb since it should auto-lock the keypad when slide is closed.

For those who wish to have software that auto-locks the keypad when slider closes, PM me and i'll forward you the software.

You almost got me worried there. I thought there was a serious problem with the N80. I should be getting my next week or so (when frikken MTN gets stock). So I might be wanting this little "feature" (autolock) by then. Maybe you can send it to me?

Otherwise...are you enjoying the phone?

Themes

Haven't had time to play with my N80 that much but how do you upload a Theme to it using Nokia PC Suit or just a plain data transfer to the phone? The Themes that come standard on it are really boring! Are new themes in a sis format and you just install them as an application???

So far the N80 is ok, didnt really have much time to play around with it....

its just sad to know that Nokia always leaves out vital functions, cant understand why.... the only good thing about the phone is WiFi & 3MP camera.....everything else is just basic, maybe im just expecting much more.....

the phone is abit bulky, i.e if u used to small & thin phones....signal strength is excellent....battery life is poor....2-3 days max.....software is abit sluggish....then again all nokia symbian software is sluggish....

I have viewed on some other forums that a version V4.XXX firmware will be released soon , hopefully will resolve the problems you are experiencing

What about the phone's browser? It is being hailed all over the place of being the 'best I ever used'

Your sluggish comment is also a bit disconcerting. All reviews that I have read indicate the new version of the Symbian OS (S60) the phone has is much better and faster than the previous versions. You are saying this is not so???
What other Symbian phones have you worked with?

IMO it does sound like you just read the specs of the phone and in your minds-eye have an expectation of what it should be like without actually reading anything more about the phone and how it operates.

All reviews about this phone have been good. All the people I know that has one is impressed. Obviously there are cons to it, but that it is to be taken for granted. No phone is 100% the way you want it.

Pros about the phone:
Brilliant display
Symbian OS
Incredible web browser
miniSD card slot (128MB miniSD card included in the package)
Very good 3 megapixel camera with flash
Excellent audio quality
FM radio
40 MB internal memory
All connectivity options - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IR, USB
UMTS and EDGE support

Cons about the phone:
Rather big dimensions
Top row of the numeric keypad is hardly reachable
No compatibility between Symbian 3rd Generation and lower versions
FM radio lacks RDS
No automatic keypad lock when slid in
Camera lens is not protected

3 of the above cons IMO are not even a con, it does not bother or affect me. It depends on your own personal experience and expectations. :)

Alarm

Is it posible to set a reoccuring alarm on the N80 coz I can't find it? This is one feature that I loved on my SE K750i and it doen't look like the nokia's have this. i.e. Alarm set for 6am Mon - Fri. Seems stupid to have to set the Alarm every night!

N80 problems - where?

I was probably the first person on this forum/SA to get the N80 and have been using it for about 3 months. It is a great phone that does almost everything, but 3 months is a long time and phones have improved in this time (although I will still purchase an N80 over anything else today).

My minor gripes are:
1. Slow start-up time - although menus are faster than previous S60 phones.
2. The slide mechanism is flimsy and does not feel as if it locks properly into place.
3. Themes eat up phone memory (and not card memory).
4. Bluetooth headset does not support music.
5. Initially poor battery time, now I can get it to last almost 2 days.
6. Cannot upgrade firmware over the NET etc. Must go in to a Nokia service centre, or rather a Nokia dis-service centre. In Cpt, they cannot do it themselves and will send the phone to Jhb - no phone for 7 days. I will rather use the older firmware than be without my phone.

I have also used this time to locate software, themes etc. and weed out most of the junk. If anyone wants some goods links or software, PM me your email address.

phone book contacts sux

I have had an N80 for several months now I find the contacts / phone book to be infuriatingly slow , so much so that I am at a point that I prefer to use my 6680 - I am run ning 06-13 firmware , any one else find this to be the case . It takes up to 6 seconds to pull up details on someone in my contact list .

Maps for N80

I am a N80 user.Does anyone know where to find road maps of SA for use on this phone?

I've had this for a while and I'm loving the phone quite honestly. Not a single problem. The menu system/programs/contacts are fast as greased lightning and function nicely.

2. The slide mechanism is flimsy and does not feel as if it locks properly into place.
Must be your phone itself. Mine is secure and locks firmly.

And no, I'm not sure where you can get SA road maps. I'd be interested in finding out though :)
