EDIT: Why I'm posting this: Just got a call from these guys, checking to see if we (our company) would be interested, as they are looking at bringing it to SA

Well, apparently they are entering the market, depending on the amount of interest that will be shown in SA.

A quick google popped up a few mentions of them on SA websites, including our favourite broadband forum, under the WiMax section.

Would they not have to apply for a license much in the same way that WBS had to?

One thing that peaked my interest is the fact that they apparently "focus" the signal at it's intended user.

My opinion would be one of reservation here as how if you have a few hundred people connecting to the same transmitter do you focus on each and everyone of them.

I understand the concept of "wasting" energy (or in this case - signal) and wanting to eradicate this, but I fail to grasp how they are going to focus on every user individually to give them the best and most consistent signal.

Could someone enlighten me.

Sorry for all the posts, but I see that Alcatel Ventures is one of the investors. Does this not mean that Altron will in all probability be the preferred South African Investor?

Iburst also apparently "focusses" their signal onto the UTD or UTC, but they call it something else. I cant really comment on what the service will be like, in SA it doesnt really matter how fast the service is, it's just the shaping and capping that will be applied which matters.
