Need some motherboard advice...

It is not bad, it just isn't as good as it could have been.

Also, apparently something like a 7600GS will outperform it, apart from the DX10 factor.

I cannot run C&C at even half settings and I get laaaaag.

My son is running C&C, 2142 etc with settings set at high, resolution 1280.
2Gb Ram and 1x7950GT
No issues or jerking.

Do u think that reducing the resolution might help me? I have it at 1680 x 1050, which is the native res of my 20" monitor. Also have 2GB RAM...

Not sure.
It will probably give you more FPS.
What does the picture look like. Maybe that is more to the point.

Well I have an LG 20" LCD.

The picture is not bad, as soon as it turn up the settings on texture or detail or anything like that then the lag is terrible. 1 second = 2 seconds type lag

Do i need to fiddle with the settings ingame or the nvidia control ones of the card itself?

It's an XFX 8500GT, running Vista...

I really can't say. Plus Vista is an unknown animal to me.

Perhaps you should post your full system specs. Maybe some of the guys can spot a weakness?
