The missus wants to do a family portrait so rather than use the self timer on my canon and run back and forth I went looking for other options.
Unfortunately my budget didnt stretch to buying canon's remote control package but I found that I already had most of what I needed courtesy of apple and canon.
As it happens the EOS range comes with a EOS Utility pack including a remote shooting (via USB) app. To complement that I next downloaded Proxi (http://proxi.griffintechnology.com/) which allows you to set up triggers for the apple remote.
Combine the two apps with a reasonable length USB cord and voilà - a cumbersome but free remote control.
