I have noticed something alongside the roads in JHB recently (no not litter, broken glass etc)

Silver poles, about as tall as Telkoms wooden telephone poles installed running alongside the Telkom telephone lines.

Witkoppen road between Main and Rivonia..
Main road between Main and William Nicol..

Is this Neotels "last mile" infrastructure?

The fibre ends at Didata/Internet Solutions' Sloane Avenue Campus, and the other end stops off at 158 Jan Smuts avenue in Rosebank, where guess.... IS's other DataCentre is. Word has it that it's NOT Neotel's.

Fibre? There is nothing strung up on the poles at present? There is a simple looking loop at the top, nothing more...

"Word has it" who have you spoken to?

I find this very interesting

This morning on my way to work, no fibre between any of the poles along witkoppen between main and rivonia, just silver poles with funny loops on the top... will take a pic later today if I get a chance...

Usually fibre is buried, its not the kind of link you want interrupted when a drunk driver does their rendition of swan lake with their car in the middle of the night and wipes one of those poles out ...

It also opens it up to vandalism, big time, a section of fibre like that could be stolen in under 2 hours and thats the end of that too ... BEEG insurance claim...

So are you sure its fibre?
