Network cables going gay on me.

I've been doing some networks for the last few years and all of a sudden the cables is going gay on me.

I've got a 8port Mecer Gbit switch and at the LAN's I host nobody can connect to it without a crossover cable. A 100mb card works fine, but try using a straight cable with a Gbit NIC, there is no lights dead. But as soon as I use a crossover cable, everything works fine and a Gbit connection.

My second experience was that I needed to kit an office, I layed 5 cables (avg 20m) and made them all straight. All going to a 8 port Lg 100mb switch. For the first time in my life, none of the cables wanted to work (cable tester said they were ok, and I have 10 of these switches and used them allot at LAN's with the same setup). But then I took the iburst and it connected fine!?

I convinced my self something was not wrong, but recrimped all the cables to crossover and everything works now.


Is the cables getting gay these days???

They don't want to be straight anymore....

I would suspect the culprit maybe your crimper tool. Some cheap nasty crimpers don't push the pins far enough down into the rj45 plug. So you get a problem where you have an electrical connection but of poor quality. Does your crimper have a ratchet?

hOw QuEEr, maybe its because you're pulling too much wire!

My tool has a ratchet, and as I said my tester shows fine.
