Older version (grey) has marginally better throughput and reception is much better than never model (black)... (never compared with ext. antennas attached)

doesn't the black models only come with either USB OR UTD connector? the older one has both

No the new one has both too, check their site.

EDIT: Maybe you are right, their site also says "or", but the title for the modem says USB with Ethernet. I always thought they had both.

EDIT2: Nope, they do have both.
