New TV for Nerfherder

He's going from a plasma to an LED, not sure if that is an upgrade in some regards. But he would need to eyeball those TVs to see if the bloom would be acceptable.
Plasma is better at SD content. Nothing is SD anymore.

At 1080p+ a modern LED is a no brainer, especially for streaming and light gaming.

The "blooming" is due to local dimming, which is poor on any entry level TV regardless of brand. You're better off turning local dimming off completely and living with dark grey. At the higher end there's more dimming zones so it's less noticeable. And only at the top end with OLED do you get perfect blacks...

Blooming happens on all LEDs, it's just more noticeable on ones with dimming due to the way the TV would try limit the lights being on to a specific section of the TV. Turning off local dimming would just dull the highlights and make blacks grayer, sure the blooming would appear less cause the whole TV is lit now.
Yes better TVs with more local dimming zones will help even more as now you're narrowing down the sections of the TV that will be lit by the white spot.
OLEDs regardless of cost would have better blacks due to not needing to have all the lights on when there are white spots, but that also means that OLEDs aren't good at highlights like LEDs can be, as OLEDs don't like bright rooms. So it's a toss up between the 2.
Until micro leds become more of a standard, which will make LED TVs better than OLED.

Yep, point is at the lower end it's going to be a problem, regardless of brand. Because they don't have many dimming zones.

So you either live with the blooming, or turn dimming off and live with a dark gray...

True that, just gotta give Nerfherder the info, cause he is coming from a TV that did blacks pretty well

It's like buying a Samsung A14 and moaning that Samsung is kak. Hisense has different TVs for different budget segments, if you buy the bottom of the barrel it's not going to look any better than say another cheapie. Also yes Vidaa does suck.
But my friend's cheaper no name brand Orion looks better?
