Nokia N80 wlan settings HELP!

Okay, so I got a new phone upgrade yesterday...the Nokia N80...which looks very cool.

I got the Bluetooth thing working okay and using the PC Suite software I can connect to the internet using the phone as a modem, speeds of about 115kbps.

I plug the phone into the laptop using the USB cable and I am getting speeds of about 460kbps. Cool.

Now, I'm a lazy bugger and I would prefer not to plug anything in and use the phone as my wlan Access Point to get my laptop connected to the internet. Sounds reasonable. Reading certain internet columns it appears that this should be possible.

Problem. How in the feck do you do it??? I have looked everywhere for an idiot's guide to doing this but I'm afraid that when it comes to networks I am about as useful as a Zimbabwean Dollar.

Can someone help me or point me in the right direction? I'll buy you an ice cream.

W-LAN is use to connect to a wireless access point.
i dont think your phone can act as the wireless AP for your laptop, use the bluetooth, works awesome.

According to the documentation it can. Not only that, you can share the connection with more than one computer. Now if only I could find out how the settings work...

Depends on what you want to do with the wireless connection.

1. If you want to surf the internet on your N80 by connecting to your PCs wireless network, this is easy. Set up a WLAN on your PC (can be ad-hoc and does not need to be an AP). Then open the web browser on your N80. It will ask you if you want to connect. Select YES and then it gives you the connection options e.g. CellC, VLive, MTNice etc. Choose the search for WLAN option. You should be able to pick up your WLAN on your PC.
2. The above works well for retrieving email and also for applications on your N80 that require an internet connection e.g. weather update services.
3. To use your N80 to connect to your PC WLAN in order to transfer files is a little more tricky. You need to have the Nokia Home Media Suite software installed on your PC. It should be on the CD that came with your N80. Alternately, you can download the latest version from www.simplecenter.com - I have struggled to get this to work properly, and have not had the time to try and sort it out.

Apparently, the latest firmware (version 4) makes the WLAN connection very much easier. I am "im"patiently waiting for it to become available on www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate.

I think this Wifi thing is a bit beyond me. I have no experience in setting up networks of any kind, so I guess I am pushing the envelope here.

I would like to be able to connect wirelessly to the phone at home and use that as my internet connection. I can connect using the USB cable and Bluetooth, but the latter is very slow and the former is inconvenient.

I am somewhat perplexed with the speeds I am getting on 3G/GPRS though. According to the PC I am connected at 460Kbps when using the cable, but pages are very slow to load and sometimes they don't load at all. I'm thankful that I didn't buy the MTN Data card and data bundle though - it definitely wouldn't work for me.
