I just received a Nokia N81 phone ('free' upgrade).

The first thing I usually do is check for firmware updates and I found that my phone is 10.0.032, yet the Nokia site claims that there is a new update available for my product code; 11.0.045.

Via the phone, I tried doing an update, but I keep getting a message saying that there is no update available. Upon reading the FAQ, it says that this message could be that the service provider has not approved the firmware yet.

I had a similar thing with my SE w900i (using both the PC/phone update tools). I've seen on the web that there were updates for my phone, but when I tried to update it, it claims otherwise.

MTN is my SP and I'd like to know if MTN is the reason why I cannot update my phone?

do the upgrade using nokia's software updater and the net i doubt you will have problems

Thanks, I am going to give it a bash tonight, its just that I see no reason why the phone update should give these errors :S

Make sure you dont brick your phone, take the necessary precautions. Follow all the instructions, backup before you upgrade etc.

I'm usually very cautious while doing firmware upgrades - Battery full with power plugged in. But I understood that there is a method to do a complete reset too, unsure about it though.

Firmware upgrade completed successfully using the software (unlike my w900i).

I still wonder why it won't do this via the phone settings though, however I'm glad I didn't since the update was 74mb (R148 ).

Nope, there is a newer version which has Flash Lite 3.0, but it has not been approved for certain regions.

I would love a firmware version that implements the Navi wheel for more options like the menu's ect.
