I recently got my adsl installed
i am using a "marconi - hasbani" router if that means anything
but what is happening now is, whenever i play warcraft
(im not sure about other games since that is the only game i play)
my pc seems to crash very frequently (1 out of maybe 3 games)
and when it restarts, there is no windows error report even tho
report is set to on.... the pc itself just freezes and i am basicalyl forced to
restart.

I have not gotten any new hardware since the adsl
i am running:
P4 3.066ghz
DFI 661fx-tml motherboard
400watt powersupply
radeon 9800xt 128mb
1 gig kingston ram

my pc has never stalled or restarted whilst i was on isdn during warcraft

Check service packs for windows as well as any driver updates.

Hi,

I think that the minimum requirements to play the game for graphics is 256MB and you only have 128.

I can sell you a 256MB at a good price :)

Check the minimum requirements on the outside of the box (if you have the original copy that is, if you don't have the original copy then maybe that is the reason, also check your temperatures, one of the most common cases for crashes during heavy graphics games)

ag please. World of warcraft doesn't need 256mb of Video-memory..

u can run Oblivion and Dark Masiah Might and magic on 9800XT 128mb just fine. lol my friend has a 9600XT 128mb and he's got a AMD 3200+ 64bit machine he gets upper 100fps ...

WoW uses less CPU and video ram than both Oblivion and Dark Masiah

thx for the input guys
i have been playing warcraft 3 (not wow :P) for the last 3 yrs on this card :D
it runs perfectly on highest settings. I play online on the south african server
and i do own the orignal copy of the game (although i dont use the original cd, im using the cd image but ive never had a prob with it)

Im runnin sp2 and i have just downloaded newer drivers for my mb and gfc...and flashed my bios.. hopefully that wil help... and with temperature..
although ive never had a prob with temperature, i have opened the side of my case and put a fan next to it :P (those 14" ones u get at makro)
and that doesnt seem to help much
will try update windows now n see if that helps

thx again

edit: are there any good free programmes i can dl that shows my cpu/gfc running temp?
then maybe i can post that regardin whether my pc is runnin too hot

What was the first thing you browsed? Porn perhaps ;) Just kidding, but it could be a virus as well.

You could use CPU-z to check the system temps and stuff, I think ;) Nice job in trying to fix it yourself bro, keep doing that, the rewards are great :p

If you don't get it right after this thread, pop around this forum for your hardware or software troubles.

i jus dl'd mbm5.... and for some reason it keeps tellin me
my pc is at 130 degrees celcius :P that just cant be right..

Edit: downloaded and ran cpu-z

hmmm... i got onboard network card so should have been updated with my mb drivers update...
didnt crash d last game i played... holding thumbs :P

CPU-Z doesn't report temperatures and mbm5 has never shown accurate result to me, it's seriously unreliable. Speedfan always works but it's a bit hard trying to figure out what is what, if you run it you'll see what I mean.

Your best bet is to navigate over to the motherboard manufacturer web-site and download their monitoring utility (also included on the motherboard CD-Rom) which usually provides accurate results.

If you are running stock cooling on the CPU don't be surprised if the temperature is near 70 degree or more since Intel Pentium 4 CPU's have a reputation of being very inefficient, a power hog and lacking in performance ;)

But seriously though if you put a 14" fan right next to the open case and the heatsink on both the CPU and GPU is secure you're problem lies elsewhere.

Try formatting? :D Starting from fresh and installing the latest drivers and only WOW and check if the problem persists. Are you running off a legit WOW server because that could also cause problems (IE you are running from a local hacked WOW server)

i havent crashed in 5 games in a row :P
installed new drivers for everything... and noticed something last game
as i thought i "Crashed" (pc stalled for about 5 seconds)
it "recovered" and some sort of pop up message came up but
was very unclear as it was flashing behind my actual game screen
i THINK it said "vpu recovered" or smthing along that line?
any clues ppl? gfc overheating?

btw. i dont play wow... i play warcraft 3 :P (dota)
