PC pppoe not working over wifi bridge...why?

Hi

I have a wrt54gl running dd-wrtv23sp2 in bridge-mode connected to my wrt54g AP

My modem is in bridge mode and I can ping it.... I however, cannot make a pppoe connection to my ISP...

If I put wrt54gl in WDS instead of bridge mode then my pc can make a pppoe connection...

What must I do to get pppoe working with the wifi bridge?

Just a couple of basics you need to make sure that you got right.
Firstly make sure your ADSL modem is in Bridge mode (maybe check if u plug the pc straight into the ADSL modem to see if u can make pppoe form pc)

Secondly make sure that you linked to the ADSL modem via the WAN port.

I have done it this way and it definately does work.

Oops , i just reread your post.
So have ADSL (bridged mode) -> WRT54G -> Some AP ?? -> PC
Thats the way it sounds from the post, but not sure i understand u correctly

Here my setup:

ADSL (bridged mode) --ethernet port---> WRT54G (AP) ---wireless--> WRT54GL(bridge mode) ---ethernet> PC

If I plug my pc directly into the AP my pc can make a pppoe connection but I cannot make a pppoe connection if I add a wireless bridge between my pc and the AP...

When i connect directly to the AP the internet works fine if I plug the adsl into one of the ethernet ports instead of the WAN....

I can ping the modem (plugged into an ethernet port of AP) via the wlan bridge but I cannot make a pppoe....

Are you sure that the modem needs to be in the AP's WAN port?

i had this same problem and never got a solution for it.. it seems the wrt54g forces those pppoe packet thingies to the WAN port and will not send them over lan, if you find a solution pleast tell me

Its not working because you have the one WRT operating in Client mode.
Because of the limitations of the 802.11 protocol, only 1 MAC address can appear to be coming from a "client" device.
So most devices that bridge, will do a "NAT" of the MAC addresses to make sure that everything is still happy.

This is probably causing the problems with PPPOE.

is it not possible then for the wrt to clone the mac of the pc?
i remember their being some funny options for that

rp-pppoe-relay or DD-WRT Micro.

Yea you can, but you need to relay the packets.
Or get a firmware that does it for you like DD-WRT SP2 Special Ed.
Or you can find and implement on OpenWRT the rp-pppoe-relay.

Wow, and I thought I was going nuts! I have also setup an old laptop through cable -> D-Link 2100AP (Client Mode) -> Wifi-ADSL-Combo (D-Link), but I cannot make a darn PPPoE connection.

I guess the "easy" way arround this is to use the AP in WDS mode and still link my laptop with the UTP cable. But other wifi devices will now detect my AP, and I don't really need another AP in my wifi list.

I also liked rellik reply, it makes sence as I thought something like this is blocking the "broadcasted" PPPoE packets.
