Its my sons birthday today & he wants a phone. He wants a S4 mini like his mother's but our budget is about R150 per month on a SmartFlexi 100 contract. He mainly wants to use it for BBM & WhatsApp.

I am considering getting him the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. Anyone have any experience with this phone? Its slightly bigger than the S4 mini.

Any other suggestions? Maybe also considering the Sony Experia E1?

I suggest you get him a BlackBerry Z3 instead of a Samsung Galaxy. He's 13 he does not deserve a phone that is not appropriate for him. So I think a BlackBerry Z3 would suite him.

I ended up buying him a Samsung Galaxy Fame Lite. Does the basics. So far he's not complaining, except for the fact that I never buy him airtime.

that's a god awful phone, a friend of mine has one and it takes 5 seconds just to unlock his phone.

Root and install a custom rom. Made a big difference before I sold it
