Damn - this is bad news, as a photographer I've taken a few chances in my life, but I'm get way more wary (maybe wisdom comes with age.)
For those that don't know Hougaard, he's one of SA's top landscape photographers.

Every photo you take with your digital camera contains hidden information about both the image and the camera such as the make, model and date. This information, called exif data, can also include a unique serial number which identifies your camera.

stolencamerafinder crawls the internet searching for photos, collecting the serial numbers of the cameras that took them.

When you use the drag & drop feature, stolencamerafinder reads the unique serial number from the exif data of your photo and uses it to match against serial numbers it has stored.

Thanks. That is useful. Even if you don't have your serial number you can get it from one of your old photos using that website

Stolen items include two D800's, a 14-24mm, 16-35mm, 24-70mm,70-200mm Nikkors, carbon fibre manfrotto and gitzo tripod, as well as two 5D3's with zeiss primes and a canon 70-200mm f/2.8 mk II.

Eish! Look out for them in the classifieds...

So much gear. I often get sent to dodgy areas but I only carry what's absolutely necessary. Glad they came out of the ordeal relatively unscathed physically.

Of course crime only happens in SA, nowhere else.

Still sucks though.

Not really, its just at a much higher risk like 99:1% in favour of your life been effected by crime happening in South Africa as opposed to most other semi and developed countries.
