Ok...shame

I recon this person had been screwed over by IncredibleConnection.

She bought 1 copy of Office Std.2007 @ R4300!!!!!

includes : word,excel,powerpoint and outlook

now she is asking me if it can be installed on multiple pc's. not as far as i know ..that thing is only a 1 pc license - and not a volume license.

research:

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Retail License Terms allow for installation on three devices. OEM License Terms limit the installation to the device on which the software was pre-installed. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms (MSLT) for the 2007 Microsoft Office system

so she is screwed unless:

a) is it possible to "convert"/get a volume license
b) its only for 4 pc's in total - it would be MADNESS to spend R16k for office just for 4 pcs

2cents required

Inform her of her options with Office 2007, and costs involved.
Add OpenOffice as an option, with the ODF plugin for Office 2007, in order to create interchangeable documents.

Not ideal, but if she doesn't want to pay the price, it's a solution.

OpenOffice is a good alternative for people that don't use a lot of scripting or "advanced" features in MS Office.

Nope, that is only available to larger customers.

Tell her to buy 4 new PC's. Office is a little over R1.5K if bought with a new PC. At least she will get a new PC with the deal.

As suggested already, it's cheaper for her to get OpenOffice, which is, IMO, a far better move.

The new version 2.3 which has just been released (today) supports extensions which may provide an alternative to the scripting stuff down the line.
