Does anyone have this? I see on the MTN's site it costs R10 per month? Is this a full-on contract or is one of those pre-paid/contract hybrids like the topup?

I called the MTNSP shop in the Somerset Mall and they said you have to take the itemised billing crap for R18.24 per month. What crap is this - why get itemised billing if you wanna use it for data??

So now the R10 per month is R28.24 per month. Ripped off again.

Abysmal service I'm getting from MTN.
I wanted to get confirmation about the R18.24 so I called a number of MTN shops and MTNSP dealers. None of them know about Prodata. So eventually I called Nashua mobile who told me to call MTN Direct. Got the number 0831233667 from MTN's website. After holding on for about 10 minutes, the dude I spoke to didn't know about it either. He told me to go to an MTN service center. After I told him that the service centers don't know about it he just cut me off. No sorry sir, no goodbye. Nothing.
MTN, get your act together. :(

Hi

The Pro Data package is available at R9.99. With this contract you can add on the relevant data bundles needed. Remember if you use it for calls or sms's you will be charged the relevant rate over and above the monthly sub due to no free minutes or freebies on this contract.

Data Bundles pricing : http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=248769

Pro Data Tariffs : http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=248737

Hope this helps

Too little, too late, I'm afraid

I went to the service centre in Century City on Saturday under the impression they can give you a contract there and then. Nope, I was told:"Sorry sir, the person who does the credit checks has already gone home, can you come back Monday?" [Ja sure, I don't mind driving back and forth from Stellenbosch during my working hours.]

I was also told they will call me on Monday morning (I filled out the application so long). Well guess what, no call yet! And the beauty of it is, you can not call the MTN service centre! They don't seem to have telephones!
So my only recourse is to go drive back there and see what the holdup is

No thanks MTN, stick your pro-data contract where it belongs.

[I sent an email to your competitor on the morning of Human Rights day requesting info on a similar low price contract. Half an hour later the information I requested was my inbox. Now that is service.]

... Regarding that I am sure you could have filled out the relevant application and handed them in so the credit vetting could have been done if they claimed the person was not in.

I am sure the competitors did not approve the contract instantly when you filled out the application in store.

Besides the website already has all the info as mentioned. As you stated you did visit the site to get the number 0831233667 so the price plans were there also.

But as long as you are happy with the current service from the competitor, thats the most important thing. Although MTN's data rates are way cheaper :)

Thanks

To clarify, I did fill out the forms on Saturday in store. The lady told me, if the person was in, they could have approved my contract within 30 minutes. But because he/she already left, they couldn't approve me. She told me she will call me on Monday. It is now Thursday evening. No calls yet. And they do have my email address as well...

She knew very well I was a first time customer. You know what they say about first impressions...

Fact is, I sent 2 faxes and an email last week to MTN requesting info on "possible extra costs" on MTN contract seeing that I got inconsistent info from different shops, but I have not received a response yet. It just doesn't look like MTN cares.

My opinion stands I'm afraid.

Service

Hi

It is rather unfortunate that this occurred. That is bad service. I will try and follow up with that service centre.

Just to let you know we have a Promo. "Bring your own handset" offered on the Mychoice Topup 75.

Monthly subscription of approx R25 and you get back R75 rand value for the month. It is currently available.

Thanks

I wouldn't mind getting the contract still, seeing that it is month-to-month and you don't get month-to-months on VC and data is cheaper on MTN. But I don't have time to drive back there unfortunately, have to go on a business trip. Maybe next month sometime.
But one thing is for sure, bad service drives me insane. I am more than willing to sacrifice a bit on costs if it means I am getting good service. Think about the many willing to go to the SNO even if it is slightly more expensive than Telkom...
Anywayz, thanks for your input Dr Data.

I went past the service center on the way to CT, spoke to the same lady. She said she left a message for me at work. I just never got the message. At least I wasn't totally ignored.

I had hoped to use the contract on roaming set to sms only, but she told me its not possible unless I take full roaming and pay a R1000 deposit.

Any other options besides renting a simcard again?
