[:D]I think what I'm going to do is subscribe to cable in Canada (which is dirt cheap), leave a machine(of which I have a couple to spare) there fulltime and proxy all my requests via shttp to that side from where I can use ANY PORT for what ever I want too.

Want to see Telkom 'shaping' the service past this one !![:D]

That is until SENTEC's broadband (if it really is) becomes available here in the poor white neighbourhoods.[;)]

I am very keen to see something like this happen.

AFAIK some company called East Coast Access is offering a 128K diginet proxy for R2500+ p/m. While this way too expensive for the average user, it is a good idea. You pay in the region of R150 p/m for a 64K ISDN connection, so why not pay an ISP say R300 p/m for a 64K ADSL proxy? That way, no cap, no ports blocked, decent international latency, and one still gets the full 512K local speeds.

Oh yes, while I'm on topic. We have a nice 128K Diginet line at work that no one uses during the week end. I am playing with WinGate VPN, if I manage to get it to work, I will post some results here.

I realy dont see the use in an overseas proxy as you still have the cap. As for the story of isps charging for local proxies, one must remember that adsl is always on and an adsl user would use 64k 24/7 to the maximum extent posible, which is quiet a lot of bw each month. Think how many ppl would dl during the day if they could get 64k uncapped. Also ISDN accounts dont usualy run during the day, another reason why they can are cheap, they don't interfear with business customers.
