I heard that u can install linux on the ps3 and that u can conect a mouse and keybord 2 it and use it as a pc.... Is this true or is it just a rumour?

It's balls. You can't use it as a fully fledged Linux box, the version of Linux running on it was designed specifically to run games.

In any case if you can afford R8000 for a games console, I'm sure you can afford R4000 for a mid-range PC capable of running Linux properly.

Not sure I would say it's balls..... It does run Linux and therefore should be able to work as a normal pc.

They recommend Yellow Dog linux but you can install any linux AFAIK.
But again like Highflyer said, whats the point? Rather get a Xbox 360 and a cheap laptop.. Same thing except you can use them both at the same time

GM is right, you can install a fully fledged linux on it,

Yellow dog being the most likely, but any PowerPC edition of linux will work. I don't think you get full hardware support unfortunately, and I have to agree on his conclusion:

You'd do better and cheaper with an XBox 360, and a Media PC (windows linux whichever)
