Imagine how different things would have been.
Very different indeed or perhaps not. I think Mugabe is a product of Zim, not the other way around. Where he came from there are loads of just as evil people. I am not saying Zim is filled with evil people, but that political system bred him... It must have bred others too...
Or he in turn created new ones. If Mugabe goes, I'm pretty sure his legacy will continue

Indeed.
And only after he was dead and gone did the truth come out as to all the atrocities committed by his Government.
The same will be the case with Mugabe and Zimbabwe with a small difference as we know most of the atrocities already thanks to the modern media, unlike back in the 1930's or 1940's.
Communication is far better nowadays and Mugabe et al cannot escape the truth. Whether the world will find it newsworthy is another matter.
After the genocide in Rwanda where only after the murders had been committed did anyone actually stand up and take notice.
The west is not overly interested in Africa's hardships.
They have formed a picture of a couple of tyrannical despots dressed in fatigues wielding the infamous AK47 and truck loads of food aid going to feed the starving masses.

This attempt on Mugabe's life was but one of many and is hardly newsworthy. BTW There were also a few plots by ex-Selous Scouts to take him out but IIRC not one of these plots were ever initiated. Seems like the guy at the top lacked the balls to give the final order.
One plot involved IEDs placed in fake roadside transformer boxes that were wired to go off simultaneously and were packed with enough explosives to take out the entire cavalcade on Mugabe's inauguration drive to the Independence Stadium. It was known that Prince Charles would probably have died in the blast as his open-top Rolls Royce would have offered little protection against such a massive blast. The planners felt that such collateral damage was acceptable! In fact, the bombs were only discovered days AFTER the event. Just imagine if this plot was initiated what chaos would have been caused.
