Really, Cape Town??!!!

Geez, can you saffers moan and groan like old ladies, thinking everybody needs to live in a townhouse mansion with 20 rooms and a butler,

leave mafia ridden south africa-stan for a second and look anywhere around the world where people want to go, London, Singapore, Tel aviv, Nw york, Los Angeles anywhere that's a tier 1 city,

what you will find? same exact thing, maybe even MORE expensive AND SMALLER!, people live very comfortably in small apartments,
raise entire families, and don't groan its too small, I cant park my Gulf-stream and Bugatti inside.

you want to live in a international city in the center of town? yes? okay this is what you get, you like it? good?
no, well you can live somewhere else and commute 2 hours each way to work,

this is the price one has to pay for being in the centre of town, everybody accepts it, Saffers just cant,
Funny, it was not like that until foreigners started their property shopping sprees.

What's the term -- gentrification?

When your cool Tiktok kids come with their GBP or Rupees or Riyahls and want to make this their next Dubai, just with weather and views which don't suck.

laws of supply and demand, same thing anywhere arounf the world, tel aviv, NYC, Singapopre, London, anywhere really.

I mean do you want a coast apartment in Bangladesh? didnt think so,

same in CPT, thats just the way the world works, people just need to accept it its not for locals who need to live someplace else.

For better or worse, there are definitely countries where only locals are allowed to own property.

Hokkies for locals and cool apartments for the boys from City of London, Singapore or Tel Aviv.

There should definitely be restrictions on foreign purchases, not outright bans but some sort of system where it's reasonable and you have limits how many properties you can buy. Maybe only a certain percentage of town should be open to foreigners for their purchase. But that would cut the COCT from cash.

of course, but even in those countries so many leasing agreements/ rental companies and timeshare, and what have you, to get apartments where people want to go,

sure they might be shoe boxes, but people are glad to have them, same thing here, people will live in cage apartments in Hong kong if it means their job is 5 min away, people cope with the inconvenience, raise families, do everything quite successfully in ridiculously small places.

just here in SA its unacceptable, cause you guys are spoiled rotten, I mean it makes sense I guess, when you lived in a huge townhouse and have to downgrade to a shoebox, but people adapt.

if anything myself I lived in small apartments my entire life, and coped perfectly well with it,

Ok I get the price upsets you - but what does that have to do with Cape Town ?

This is just a trap for investors, there are plenty of places like this popping up, loads of them have vacancies because of stupid pricing. They stay like that until the developer gets desperate.

Anyway Mayor Pork pie will change the airBNB laws in a second and places like this will get trashed.

So ye, just a trap for Germans with more money than sense.

New laws ..... or new bylaws?

And what do they entail?
It's coming. Bylaws for CT specifically.
The one thing is that short term rentals will have to be treated at businesses, bunch of other rules making it less feasible to casually AirBnB your property.
Cost will go up and convenience will go down. It means you won't be able to buy a room like this and make a profit.

I want one. Can cook breakfast and pis in the toilet at the same time while still in bed. Very convenient.

If one gets it right one can sit on the toilet, be at the kitchen table and dining table and study at the same time. Convenience+++
One can take a dump while on Teams and still prep dinner while eating lunch. Talk about the best and most efficient life. What amazing life hacks this place offers.
