My 1-day old N80 went for a swim with me... :(

After drying it out nicely for a week it seems to be working - except for the screen. It's just blank but the backlight does come on.

I've cleaned and dried the LCD's cable and connectors and the PCB with alcohol.

I think the LCD is fried.

Does anyone know where (Jhb/East Rand) I can buy a replacement LCD?

Last resort would be to take it to VodaDontCare... but they charge R600 to replace it and I don't know how much of that is labour?

Thanks

Take it to Nokia at Vodaworld, rather have them do it. They'll find out what the problem is, and maybe even replace the phone if they can't get it working (assuming that water damage doesn't void the warranty).

The worst that can happen is that its BER, but theres no physical damage dont think youll have to pay.

Why u use alcohol?

Alcohol (at least clean Ethanol or Methanol) will drive away the water and evaporate without causing further corrosion. So my advice on water damage is to immediately remove battery and take apart the phone. Clean it with alcohol and let it dry thoroughly. I have soaked an older phone in Methanol (or Methylated Spirits) with good results. I would be careful with the LCD though...

First thing you should do after you got your phone out of water is take out the battery.........

Just make sure that you have some money to pay for that. I don't think that you can avoid paying. The N80 is a pretty good phone so R600 is worth it!

The N80 LCD is R495.80 inc VAT.

Check and clean the LCD connector first, it often has a build up of lime scale after getting wet.
