Far as I have read Telkom = GPON
SO
IF you go with Telkom you are constrained already by the physical infrastructure.
Any ISP you use is also thereby constrained.

For business purposes I would imagine that Metro Ethernet = "pure" Ethernet and is the better long term option ?
Which network provider is using this technology ?
Which network provider is using AON ?

BTW: what would any of you say if you overheard a fibre splicer working on the FTTH reticulation in your area saying:

"That is good enough, it is only for FTTH to one user, we have lots of splices to do today"

In other words, the contactor working in my area for OpenServe is busy rolling x number of km per day of badly spliced fibre, which may have come backs before it is even commissioned!

They are busy splicing around our area.

Windy, dusty and splicing done on a little table on the pavement with no shelter from the elements. The old cable jointers would be having heart attacks if they saw it.

If I was still running the show, that Gold plated side cutter the guys gave me when I left the Hillbrow Tower would be working overtime! :twisted:

Vumatel provides a layer 2 connection to my premises, terminating in a switch.
There's no encapsulation, I just have a router in DHCP client mode on the external interface, connected to their switch.

Vumatel is using AON

DFA has a number of ME based products.
So does OpenServe and Neotel as far as I know.

Residential is predominantly single core PON, but fortunately, from what I have seen, the minimum fibre cable being drawn into homes is dual core.

The new "drop wire" seems to be a composite cable with fibre cores as well as copper pairs ??? Not sure I like that idea! I would prefer absolutely no copper at all. I have a sample I picked up at the myBB conference last week.

So Telkom can give you a Telephone and charge you for voice ? :twisted:

Bitco is another synchronous service provider specifically geared up for service provision to businesses.
