My telkom router syncs with the dsl network perfectly. I got a netgear one yesterday and it won't sync.

has anybody got any ideas?

I assume you configured the router correctly and are using the correct encapsulation (PPPoE)? Also check the VPI & LCC setting Telkom uses. If these are correct, it might be that your link might have/had problems, or your router are faulty.

Also check the cable running from wall to router with analog phone for a tone, the cable might be faulty!

the router is a netgear dg814

vpi is 8
llc is 35

my other modem works perfectly its i just updated to the lastest firmware and it still says that it cannot sync

DG814 ... it is fairly old model ... it was before the DG834 series.

Version 4.10 according to the Netgear site is the last firmware release.

I suspect that the router is either dead or that the Telkom DSLAM is incompatible with the ADSL chipset used in this router.

It is ICASA approved and what does Duxbury say ???.

If it ain't syncing then there is nothing wrong with your config but rather something more fundamental between the router and the DSLAM.
