RWIN and MTU and Dr. TCP

do you need to play games on your client machines. If not just use a proxy server.

yep. i have two client machines that need to be able to play games.

the gateway machine is a mere AMD Athlon 700.

I just spoke to Jonathan from Sentech, and he told me to do this:

On the CLIENT machines (NOT the gateway), clear all the values in Dr. TCP (set to default or clear) and just set the RAS MTU to either 1530 or 1450, reboot and viola! [:)]

he says that should work.

so, that's what i'll try tonite. enable SICS (Stupid Internet Connection Sharing [:)]), set those values... and pray.

question is: what do i make the settings on the gateway machine?

i don't think i've changed them on the gateway since i formatted it the last time, so it should be fine, but IN CASE i have... what should they be on the gateway machine and would that affect the connection?

please post your results.

went to the menlo tower today. got as close (or as far depending on how you look at it) as possible and only get a maximum of 58% with a cantenna. I wanna know how you get 75%+??

We could only get a maximum of about 50m from the tower before severe mountain drop off..

Maybe a 20dB antenna or dish would help.

at 55-58% pings werent any different from usual. Packets loss was down to a steady 1-2% (almost 0 for pings to www.sentech.co.za) on continous ping.

you want me to post my findings with the MTU stuff? if it works, i might not post, 'cos i'll kill myself - something so easy!? [:0]

i have a grid antenna (from my days with MegaWAN), but it's on the roof of our complex - and it's FREAKING high... not so cool with the climbing on high buildings gig.

if i can get that off the roof, and play around with it, i might be able to get an ever better signal strength. don't know where i'm going to put it though [:D]

keep your fingers crossed for the MTU thing though - i hope it works [:(]

well, so much for that idea.

didn't work :(

i changed the MTU on one of the client machines to 1530, rebooted, tried, nothing...

changed it to 1450, rebooted, tried... nothing...

it would still only load the title of the page, nothing more...

next idea?
