SA DigitalVillages any good?

I don't see an upgrade at all. i've been running speed tests and the local link seems to be performing fine, or at least 3mbps out of the 4mbps reached. international is **** slow. 1mbps if you're lucky. a 6mb file takes about 20 minutes to download. Sometimes faster, like during the day I get a full 1mbps of international without much stuttering, after hours when everyone is home? Forget about it.

So really not sure WTF is going on. All I know is they're not an ISP's ass

Yip. Not sure how they got signed with Baldwin. Like WHAT #&^$ tender process was this (some back stage deal)
Their support sucks and informing their cliental sucks so, never thought they'd reach the 7th goal and maybe 15th it will come and go with some other excuse.

Even in the email I got from Gina, Blaming the electricians for sorting power out is not the way to go, as I was under the impression from the estate manager that that electrical work was only for the one Monday. They've had what? 2weeks to sort **** out.

Where I work you work dam over weekends to meet dead lines, guess other company's are like #^$% the client.

From SADV:

Dear Valued Customer

We are very pleased to confirm that our fibre backhaul to Greenstone Ridge has now been implemented and we have gone live as of 21H00 on 16th September

This will resolve any congestion issues that we may have been experiencing over the past few weeks at both Greenstone Ridge and Greenstone Crest.

We really appreciate your patience during this Implementation period and look forward to any feedback with regard to the experience going forward.

Kind regards

SADV Support

Anyone seeing any difference?

Yep, rock solid speeds. Have done several speed tests/streaming tests last night (usually got worse at night than during the day)

One thing I noticed though is that Google and related services are routed to London and doesn't terminate at Teraco like it used to, but I'm sure they'll sort that out as time goes on.

Ping @ 170ms to London with average of 3.85mbps down and 1.8mbps up. Local is between 4-7ms and 4mbps down and 2mbps up.

Sitting at around 460kb/s download for local and 410-460kb/s for international. Way better than before, but I don't want to get too happy, want to see how it progresses over the next few weeks as people realize they get full speed.

There's quite a few indian families, and after being in Abu Dhabi for a while, I saw they love their torrents, so time will tell :D

Hi Envo,

How have your speeds been?

I ask because I am moving to Greenstone Ridge on 1 November and looks like SADV is the only option.

Thanks!

Greenstone Crest SADV

I am at Greenstone crest and I'm supposed to be on the 10Mbps line. I haven't had 10Mbps speeds yet on upload or download, mostly less than 5mbs sometimes but seldom up to 7Mbps. :( and today i'm back to less than 1Mbps which is really frustrating because I can get that with my crap 3g. Anyone else getting consistently good or bad speeds?

Hi JPerold. I'm also in Greenstone Crest. I eventually cancelled my SADV 10Mbps application after waiting over 2 months for installation. I'm considering to re-apply with them, but would first like to hear if your speeds etc have improved since your post? I don't really know what other SP options we have? Any advice would be welcome. Many thanks

Their speeds are rock solid. Getting about 480kb/s but it does fluctuate a little for international. Been streaming like a dream. Their backhaul covers greenstone crest now as well I believe.

The install might take a while cause they need more people in your block to sign up. Maybe ask Gina why it took 2 months. Mine took that long in greenstone ridge because of confusion re the layout plans. Eventually got it sorted.

Google is also now terminating locally. Havent had a hiccup other than when the power goes out :)

Still on the map

There was a company called Evotel that was looking at implementing FTTH in various complexes in Greenstone Hill including Greenstone Ridge but they seemed to have dropped off the map.

Hey Gex, we're busy with Waterstone now. We've installed most of the core network at Waterstone Estate and we'll be starting customer installations on the 26th of October 2015. I know Bushwillow and Emerald chose other fibre partners, but the rest is still looking. It's looking positive for a few, but nothing concrete yet.

Is there any other FTTH that balwin residents can make use of, or is it only SADV as they have laid the cables in the complex?

Hey guys if you're interested I started a different thread on my experience with SADV

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/800586-SA-Digital-Villages-Terrible-ISP?p=17116832#post17116832

In addition if anyone is in Greenstone Ridge and is fed up with SADV, Evotel have made a proposal to supply internet services to Greenstone Ridge however the trustees have put it on the back burner because of the new CCTV installation that has to take priority but please PM me if you are interested in getting Evotel in here, I want start a petition of some kind going to show the trustees.

But you should also let them know your interest on their website.

SADV, still worst internet service provider in greenstone and overpriced for the service they offer! Anyone know an actual isp that will give a decent prices line fast enough to connect to dstv explora and not buffer everything?
