Samsung washing machine spinning slowly

Hi all on the forum this is my first post,

I have a Samsung top loader washing machine which recently after six year of service has decided to spin slowly even without clothes on it.
It first did washes and rinsing but has failed recently on spins with slow spinning.

Any Idea what might cause this unusual behaviour ?

So only the spin cycle is slow? Wash moves normally (asking to rule out belt slippage, which you will likely hear anyways )

Does it make any weird noises? A rumbling sound perhaps?

I recently had similar symptoms on a Defy top-loader and the techie removed the base plate and showed me that the fins underneath were bent (premature "old age") so not gripping onto the motor/gears/whatever. Lucky 'twas still under warrantee so he just replaced it. But it didn't look like a very pricey part. Try removing yours and check that the fins are not bent.

Odd thing was, it only affected the wash cycle not the spin cycle. So just give yours a look and see what you can spot.

I cant remember the exact symptoms, but I seem to remember my samsung had a similar problem.
I also believe the upright top loader is a direct drive, no belts.

I tool a look at the back, there are no capacitors underneath, and I also pulled out the drain pump to clean it out.

After all else failed, I called an expert, who did some fault finding.
Told me was the main board, the cost of which is the same as a new machine.

Not good, really hope its a quick fix as six years is not good value for my buck then.
 
I had exactly the same problem with our Samsung.
Looking around the net I found quite a few with the same problem with no conclusive answer.

I could get my machine to spin properly by fiddling with the manual settings.
The weird thing was it ran perfectly up to the spin cycle.

What I eventually realized was the drain pump was running very hot and would stop on the spin cycle.
The drain pump has an over temp thermo switch which kills the pump.
The spin cycle was now very slow because the drum hadn't emptied.

I replaced the pump, it was R275, and bingo, problem solved.

I suspect the tech might say its the main board rather than admit they didn't know what was wrong.
It took a while to relate the slow spin to the drain pump and in all fairness, if a tech didn't spot the
faulty drain pump his labour bill would be excessive.

EDIT: tecsareco list the main PCB at R1550 inc vat which could be viable if the rest of the machine is in good condition.
