The required documents include a "Proof of Funds" forum in which your friend can undertake to be financially responsible for you. Not sure if they value that if the parties are not allowed, though.

I applied last week on Wednesday and the visas were available on Friday morning. VERY fast. I believe what counted in our favour is that we were granted Schengen visas (by France) 4 years ago.

Yip. We had to learn that lesson with a trip planned to SA, had a medical emergency and the built-in credit card insurance doesn't cover that. Luckily we were to move the tickets and only pay the difference, but that sucked.

OP, take note that you can only take out the topup insurance for a set amount of time after tickets were booked, at least for us that was the rules.

Agreed no one wants to pay extra for insurance its always a grudge purchase but a trip that costs this much with so much that can go wrong. R900 extra is PEACE OF MIND.

I think Bryte is very subsidised for Investec flights.
