Securing payment for site you developed

Name and shame this company. I wouldn't want to deal with this company in any manner - as a customer or a supplier...

just on a side note, how efficiently are CCMA cases handles (in terms of speed/turnaround time) if a ccma complaint is lodged how long until theres an official response?

What ever you do, dont delete the sms- that is no grounds for a dismissal- the ccma will own them.

In future, never start a project until you have a 50% deposit, even if its a big lucrative contract. rule of thumb, if they're not willing to pay the deposit, you're going to have problems with payment later on.

Agreed dont let people waste your time, I take at least 70% upfront on large projects otherwise I don't even register the domain nothing ....

...with a site that took me weeks to develop(250 pages)?

...Or do you think im in the wrong as I wasted 2weeks of my live on this?

2 weeks for 250 pages? I hope that site is DB driven!

Also: no contract & no deposit = no work.

Unless you really, really trust the client - in which case you are a fool! :)

Not all that efficiently, sadly. You have 30 days after date of termination to file an unfair dismissal case. The onus is then on you to ensure that a copy of your complaint is sent to the other party. You then wait for them to get back to you regarding a hearing date, which is all dependent on their current backlog. In this case it would probably not have to reach arbitration stage as it seems a cut and dry case, if the OP's story is correct. It would more than likely be settled at conciliation, although this particular employer does seem a difficult breed...

30% deposit before starting any work.
50% at the 70% to 80% complete mark (where 70% to 80% is would be part of the spec) - basically this is about where the client get to run through the site from end to end and do their testing (not that they haven't been testing so far).
Then the last 20% before you take the code from YOUR sever and put it on theirs.
If you don't have the full 100% then they don't have the code on their server.

Good luck and chlk another one up to "go direct to the CCMA, do not pass go.."

I think so as the accountant is the daughter of the manager/owner and the other rep is a close friend

Why I prefer corporates. Not saying they are perfect but there is less chance of collusion to withhold payments because of seperation of duties. When you deal with any company you need to be sure that someone senior had bought into your contract.
