Please note the following about the Watcher software used by the Sierra Wireless AirCard® 775.

The MTN branded version has a built-in default profile so that it can connect to the internet without configuration directly from the box.

However, on specific versions of Watcher, if a user deletes a profile, any new profiles added could cause an error that will prevent the card from being able to connect to the network. Essentially, it will automatically disconnect as soon as you try to connect.

There should normally be no need to delete the MTN default profile but in case you do wish to delete it you will need to run a patch first for the software to work.

Sierra Wireless has developed this patch and it is available for download as a small zip file (236KB).

To get full details on this issue and to download the patch, please check out the following URL:

Even if you don't have this specific need, the site is interesting anyway!

Please private mail me if you have any further requirements.

This information will be placed on the mtn.co.za web site shortly.

Thanks for that MTNBroadband.

I hope you intend to ship the new R4.2.0.3 release sometime.
The current version (shipping for MTN on the Sierra site) is R4.1.0-Build-0027....
However, when loaded, I get R4.1.0-Build-0026.

Do you know what updates are available with R4.2.0.3?

Sorry - haven't been keeping up with this forum.

This card is EDGE/GPRS I gather - where do I buy it? And how much is it? Is there an EDGE/GPRS card that goes into straight into your desktop (PCI slot), or do you need to purchase a PCMCIA bridge that slots into your PCI slot, then the card into the bridge?

Dolby, I signed up 1 week ago for a free Sierra Wireless Aircard 775, EDGE / GPRS card from MTN SP on a MyChoice 75 contract . It is a PCMCIA card and hence you'll have to get a PCI to PCMCIA bridge. I think the VodaShops sell them if I'm not mistaken.
